Absolutely Horrible! Stay FAR Away from Shakespeare Martineau!

I have never experienced such awful service in my life. I reached out to Shakespeare Martineau at their No 1 Colmore Square office in Birmingham, and it took them TWO HOURS to even acknowledge my inquiry. The sheer lack of professionalism and respect was shocking. When I finally got through, the staff were disgustingly rude and unhelpful. I honestly couldn’t believe how bad it was. This company is a complete nightmare to deal with. Do yourself a huge favor—STAY FAR AWAY. You’ll save yourself hours of frustration and a whole lot of stress. Avoid them at all costs!

If you're looking for a masterclass in how to never receive a simple one liner certificate, you've struck gold. Trying to get documentation from Caroline Conacher is like waiting for a reply from outer space, 2 months and counting.

Pro tip: Stay on standard variable, by the time Caroline will return a simple certificate BOE interest rates should be down to 0.5%

AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

Fortunately the staff I spoke to were helpful but the constant of being on hold for HOURS do not make up for that, even worse being on hold for over 40 minutes just to be cut off which I had happen more than twice.

Do not be fooled being number 1 in the queue as I have had to hang up after an hour as it seems to be a technical issue.

Also being passed from numerous departments did not help. 1*

Disgusting. My daughter was trying to contact the company and rang 4 times last week. No one returned her calls.
I notice from the reviews this is their modus operandi.
All please remember that if you have spent your time trying to sort out problems only to be ignored you are in your rights to charge the company for your time. Send them an Invoice. It costs £50 to put in a claim via the Gov website if they choose to ignore you.

Keep you holding for an eternity, they offer to call you back but fail to do so. I believe it is a scam as you then miss the deadline to pay and their fees rise.

Nothing short of extortion. i have a amail from them stating a Europcar fine that is paid. then they start sending threat emails about court and CCJ etc. They dtn answer the phone at all ever, I have spent 2 hours on hold as caller number one. They dont call back from messages as stated by them. One of the emails given is not valid and the other is unanswered. they have now doubel the fine i Do not owe. They should be shut down.

This company takes enjoyment from other people's misery, and just another cog in what is wrong with the UK right now—desperate money grabbers who go after people for claims without doing their homework.
Twice in less than two years, our paths have crossed and twice they have all the wrong communication information. So they take the time to harass family members to seek payment for something that is not quite honest and they have been given incorrect information. I hope that this company eventually gets found out and is publically humiliated for what they do. SHMA employees enjoy it why it lasts. Desperate times

Chasing for an energy debt attributed to my partner. Sent them everything confirming she didn't live at the address - only for them to fail to put the pieces together correctly and feed it back to the energy company. Initial support by Sophie was great and I had a feeling things would get resolved but then it went downhill drastically when it was handed over. Just today I asked Jasmine to hold on the line whilst I emailed documents again so she could confirm they received them and all I got back was attitude "me staying on the line isn't going to help" and when I proceeded to explain how it would put me at ease over the stressful situation - she continually tried to interrupt me. no returned calls, lax diligence in document reviews and clearly no empathy for a situation that I shouldn't be in.

Tried to take me to court for a ccj for an old electric account that has 2 complaints open with the ombudsman. Would not accept that the complaints exist even after being provided with photos of the ombudsman website showing the complaints and all correspondence between myself, the ombudsman and the energy company. They sent one letter with a deadline to get in touch with them by or court action would be started. I follow the information on the letter and contacted them well before the deadline to discuss this account. They ignored me and started it anyway. I have asked them at least 12 times why they ignored me and started court action anyway and they have ignored every single one. Enjoy the court charge you will have to pay as the ombudsman is having them removed from my account!

They took our company to court (Without telling us) over a debt owing to Companies House that wasn't owing in the first place. Then blackmailed us into paying the court fine or face a CCJ going on our record. We paid up to stop the CCJ whilst we sorted the mess out. two months later they have conceded they make a mistake and the debt didn't exist. They now refuse to pay us back the blackmail money they took from us and say we have to go to Companies House to claim it back. Have had to instruct my bank to get involved who are now investigating.

This is an utter sham of a company. Never reached out to discuss with us before going to court, never told us of a court date or given any time to prepare defence. Also completely baffled the judge granted them permission to fine us. Find out our company was just 1 of 20,500 cases that day, that the judge said yes to fining all cases in one single sitting, saying they're probably all the same case. Utter disgrace of the legal system. How they can rule 20,500 companies are all the same without looking into them is beyond me.

Now having to look into taking them to court to get our money back along with costs.

Bet we aren't the only company in this batch of 20,500 to be wrongful accused by this incompetent company.

Shakespeare Martineau are acting on behalf of Europcar and pursuing a matter against my partner regarding a collision in a hire vans that was not his fault.

This claim has now been ongoing for over 10 months and Shakespeare Martineau have never responded to a single email we have sent. In April, we managed to get a hold of them by phone, where their employee acted surprised and compassionate about what we had to tell her and asked us to send a full account of all evidence, comms with Europcar and witness statements. She assured us that she would be putting the account on hold whilst they investigated further and she would ensure we received responses to our emails (which we never did). It is now 4 months since then, and we have had no update on the outcome of their investigations or notice that the claim had been re-opened. They have now sent draft court letters out of the blue stating ‘multiple requests for payment’ - this seems unfair considering we were told everything was on pause.

The assigned case worker is impossible to get hold of - you will spend hours on hold and receive no updates.

We were told that if we had paid upfront, we would have received the money back once it had been settled through insurance. It is quite clear that they have no intention of settling this through insurance, as this would have been a straightforward claim and taken weeks to settle, and as stated has now been 10 months.

The worst company ever.

I spoke to them regrading an urgent query on the phone and I was promised to get a call back but ever happened.

I have tried to call them today but was on hold for an hour 3 times, on the third time someone hang up on me.

I tried emailing but no answer. They are the worst at communication and they don't care about consumer duty as per the FCA.

Not recommended at all.

Companies House issue penalties and fines and then this crowd buy the debt, They then chuck it into a court hearing without taking onboard any discrepencies. We had a dormant Company that had an incorrect penalty imposed and they pursued the 150 fine with all their loaded charges all the way to court without any previous correspondence Shameful ! it's all a numbers game for these unprofessionals that have a reputation of being Bullies.
