They waste your time, and they are never clear about what your need to do next. They take 6 - 8 weeks to say yes or no. Worst company I’ve ever had to deal with.

Withdrawn from uni but to reapply for a different course. Obviously my last loan was classed as an overpayment and I called up to pay it back and set up a payment plan for this. Spoke to Mathew I think the first time and then Gabriella and they made me feel so at ease and I realised I have nothing to stress about. Thanks for the support

Been trying to pay off my loan for weeks now. Was initially told after a 1.5 hour wait on the phone by UMER in the repayment department that I could not repay my loan because the 'files were not updated'. Umer could not update the files himself or transfer me to a department that could. He told me to call back at the end of the week.

Needless to say, I decided to send a direct transfer of the approximate figure so that they couldn't fob me off or charge me interest any longer.

My account is now supposedly in credit. Tried to contact them today to receive my >£300 back. I was cut off after 25 mins on hold. Finally got in touch via the complaints line. I am now told I cannot have a final statement because the account does not read £0.00. This refund can take 28 days.

They have told me, that in the mean time, they may continue to take money from my employer as it can take weeks for HMRC update their records.

Only when my account finally reads £0.00 will they be able to give me a closing statement. Oh and they won't send me that - I have to contact them again to request it...

Utter incompetence. I would be embarassed to work for SLC.

Horrendous wait times on phone. Needs much more staffing. Every interaction with SLC is painful.

An absolute pathetic service that you can never get through to. Social media people fob you off that you have to call. Then end up spending hours on hold either never getting through to anybody or it just cuts off. A disgraceful service. Been trying for a couple of weeks to get through to someone so get my CRN and get nowhere.

I gave them the information they wanted, and I am still being charged a non compliance rate as someone who works abroad. I try to call them and end up on hold for hours. I can't reach them. I will be taking this company to my MP and eventually to court because what they are doing is nothing short of FRAUD.

Doesn't pick up the phone when trying to make a repayment - been on the line for 2 hours on hold.

I got fed up with the rising interest rate and decided to overpay and clear my student loan as I'm fortunate enough to have a job I can pick up lots of overtime. Before coming to the end of my loan I called them to specifically ask whats the best way to go about it to prevent ongoing payments being taken. I followed THEIR exact instructions calling on my payday to clear the loan. 7 weeks later student finance england are still yet to send the stop notification to HMRC who then have to post a letter to my employer. Each month they continue to take my money despite my loan being cleared- I'm having to apply for a refund every month (which I'm still yet to see a penny of and apparently this can take up to 28 working days). I submitted a formal complaint only to be told "this wasn't a service issue" and to be ignored. What sort of loan company continues to take payments despite the loan being fully cleared- it's a step away from theft. I also asked for a letter confirming my loan was fully paid so I can give it to further employers- 5 weeks later I'm still waiting for this

Should be a national scandal how badly they operate considering what they do. Can't help but take a cynical view that it's run this way on purpose so people repay more than they need to. Absolute shambles.

This is the worst company I've ever had to deal with. I tried to repay my loan months ago and I had to deal with someone who clearly had no idea what he's doing. It was like someone was taken off the street without training and asked to deal with the enquiry on the spot.
I was trying to contact them again and repay my loan but it is impossible to connect for days. Nightmare.

Appalling customer service. Only way to get to speak to someone is by phone and have currently been waiting an hour and 45 minutes!

Vidale was very helpful and patient on the phone and helped process my refund because of an overpayment. Highly recommended.

Every time I call I get different information. Rude customer service. Unhelpful and frustrating. They act like they are doing us a favour!

Paid my loan back. Overpaid had to chase as zero effort from them to stop collecting or refund. Advised can have a refund and to update bank info on website. Website only allows this if you key in old bank info first ( can't see on site) I left university decades back haven't had the bank in question for over a decade. Massive overkill by SLC to stop you getting a refund, as they know no one keeps old info from decades ago. while they still take funds from you wages. Complained got zero help . Just debt collections and thiefs by another name.

PLEASE DO NOT TAKE OUT A STUDENT LOAN. Everything I was told at the start was a lie, I'vepretty much just been paying interest for 20 years!! Criminal.

I must express my profound disappointment with the services provided by Student Finance England. My experience, particularly in dealing with their handling of financial matters, has been nothing short of frustrating.

In 2022, I encountered unforeseen circumstances that led to a brief period of unemployment. Despite promptly securing employment within two months and diligently updating my employment details with Student Finance England, my maintenance loan has been inexplicably withheld. The reason provided is a purported lack of evidence, despite my submission of the necessary documentation.

There once was a lad, got a proper degree
Then onto Chartership, like a royal decree
Every months pay, the loan stood in the way

Until eight years later, a student loans hater
Invested in Bitcoin, and a lot more in altcoin
Won big on that bet, and paid off his debt

Talked on the phone with them once but by the very vurtue of what they do. One star. You are missed like a hole in the head.
