We are sorry to hear that you have been unhappy with the service that you have received. When taking out your policy we do ask you to contact us if you are looking to cancel the policy, there are no cancellation fees and you can cancel at any time.

Sadly, cancelling your direct debit does not cancel the contract of insurance and this will result in communication from us to check if you would still like us to cover your pet going forward, as this can often happen in error. There are a number of ways that you are able to cancel the policy, including our online portal, over the phone or via email.

We've insured our dog with 4Paws since…2018

We've insured our dog with 4Paws since 2018, but over the past couple of years, we've seen a shocking increase in premiums. What started as a £250 policy has now risen to over £1,200 at the latest renewal.

In those seven years, we made just one claim—for £360, which was actually less than that year’s premium. In total, we’ve paid around £4,000 in premiums, yet this extreme price hike suggests that 4Paws has little interest in insuring older dogs, even those as healthy as ours.

This became even more evident when I obtained an alternative quote for just £450. Expecting to negotiate, I called 4Paws but was bluntly told they wouldn’t lower the price at all. Instead, they simply warned me that switching insurers could mean losing coverage for pre-existing conditions—essentially leaving me with no choice but to accept their inflated pricing.

It's disappointing to see a company price out loyal customers, especially responsible pet owners who have made minimal claims.

I am sorry to hear that you are disappointed with your renewal quote.

Please be aware there are several factors that contribute to each renewal quote we provide, such as your pets age or the cost of vet fees in your local area, both of which as you know have increased over the last 7 years. Whilst claims can impact a policy price. Currently we consider claims made within the last 2 years when calculating your quote. One of the most important factors we must consider is the length of time your policy has been active. This allows us to assist with treatments and claims that are relating to the 7 years of medical history that has accumulated whilst your policy has been active with us.

As my colleague confirmed when you contacted us. When purchasing a new policy, it is common to lose cover for medical history that is dated from before the start of a policy. This is considered ‘Pre-existing’ by most pet insurance providers, including us. This loss of cover, as well as differences within the policies, and introductory discounts, can often lead to the difference prices being offered to you, which is what you have witnessed.

We believe in providing an accurate and honest price to all customers, this allows customers to make an informed decision, knowing whether they contact us or not, the quote they received from us was the best price we can possibly offer in order for you to benefit from continuation of cover.

Dishonest and Misleading Renewal Practices

I am extremely disappointed with 4Paws and their misleading practices. A few weeks ago, I received a renewal notice quoting my annual premium as £426, with the email stating, "For information, last year’s equivalent premium was £403." This suggested an increase of only 6%, which seemed modest and reasonable. On this basis, I decided to remain with them and did not feel it necessary to obtain alternative quotes, trusting that the information provided was accurate and transparent.

However, today I received the renewal paperwork in the post, and the quoted £426 translates to £36 per month. This is significantly higher than the approximately £27 per month I have been paying, equating to an actual increase of 33%! This means the renewal letter completely misled me into believing the increase was far smaller than it truly was.

I strongly object to companies that rely on deceptive communication to retain customers. It is unacceptable for 4Paws to misrepresent information in this way, especially given the already rising costs of pet insurance.

I have since moved to a different provider and would advise others to review their renewal offers carefully before deciding to stay with 4Paws. This is a company that clearly cannot be trusted.

The renewal invitation will show the premium quoted for the upcoming year but also last year’s premium before any discounts and our administration fee have been applied. Unfortunately I have had to claim twice for 2 off my cats in the last 2years and on both occasions this company have dealt with my claims professionally & quickly would highly recommend this insurance company if looking to insure your pet, sadly they both died through there illnesses but without insurance there was no way we could have afforded to try and help them overcome there illness

A Scam

They will charge you inordinate monthly amounts for comprehensive insurance but will not pay anything out unless they get a full clinical history from birth. I brought my pup to UK from Portugal and they haven't been able to contact vet from when we were there so they have closed my claim. The issue happened here in UK (very obviously), but they for some reason need the clinical history from 10 years ago that has nothing to do with her present condition.
They have taken thousands from me for the past few years on an empty promise. This was the only claim I have ever made because she needed surgery and they are refusing to support.

An absolute scam of a company.
