If I could put 0 stars I would. My son who is not only a time served painter who went to college for 2 years and qualified and was assessed on site by his assessor. I may add was that good in his first year they put him forward for Dulux painter of the year. Can't get a blue CSCS card without paying 2k because his Diploma is apprantley not adequate. However it is simply a few modules different very minor. Yet they want him to pay 2k for a few modules which he doesn't have that kind of money. to assess him on site for 1 day To tell him yes he can do the job. So if you are a company requiring Blue Skilled workers. You are missing out because of CSCS criteria. Not because the skilled workers are not out there. Most go work for themselves over paying 2k to a company for a module. He is time served both commercial and private. Yet they will give blue skilled card to someone with a city and guilds on Art or Craft because it's not a Diploma. Whoever makes up these rules needs a good shake. He has done Citb has. Paid £250 for his course. To be told sorry you can't have your card 5 years later nothing has changed. Money making opportunity at every turn.

Why on earth can't we have 1 card with all our nvq's on the back? A multi trade card.
I'm a dry liner andddddd occasionally a supervisor, anddddd I want my white card with my nebosh on the back because, yes, I am that pretentious. But at £40 each?

Be warned you may be ripped off by CSCS. I received notification to renew my supervisors CSCS card. I completed the test and received my new card but it only had 3 years until renewal not the expected 5 years. On contacting the CSCS they said the rules are changing and if I had done my renewal by phone I would have been told to apply for a new type of card instead of renewing the supervisor one. They have refused to pay for the new card and test I would need to get the full five years. They say the changes are on their website which we all read all the time.

I'm glad CSCS only seems to get 1 star from all the other reviewers. They don't deserve anything more.
Why do I need to do two test? Why do I need to renew it every five years despite having multiple higher level qualifications?

i did my test past my test paid for my card and 2 months later still no card in post all they did was change the request date on my application hiding the fact did absolutely noting i am unable to work with it and even apply because they now changed the application date so i would look like a liar to any jobs i had applied for prior to them changing the dates on me ... MAKE A COPY OF YOUR APLICATION BY DOING A SCREAN COPY WITH DATES AND TIMES

a frustrating experience. takes ages to get anything from them. CSCS is making simple things very complicated. not an approach you'd expect in 21st century

Just did my latest CITB Health and Safety Test so I could renew my CSCS Card , This would be my 4th or 5 th card , but like others I'm working on a site just now , the agent says I'm a great and very experienced site worker , I should be after working on building sites for 50 YEARS , I year for each question that I got today and I got every question correct 50/50 , my card expires at the end of Oct but on enquiring about renewal on the phone today to CSCS ,I was told that I would need to sit and pay for a 1 day test to show I'm competent to work on site , sum up 50 years experience , last 20 yrs CSCS Card holder , presently working on a site , I agree with all comments and I say it's extortion and the police should be investigating this rip off, and I won't be sitting their test.

Scam company extorting people for money for unnecessary things
If I passed the cscs test WHY DO I NEED TO DO A 1 DAY COURSE LEARNING WHATS ON THE TEST
If DVLA worked this way, You would pass your driving test but they would hold your card ransom until you bought more driving lessons.
This mafia outfit needs disbanding and prosecuting

Wasting people’s time and money !!!

I after spending 10 years in the construction industry can now not return to it after a serious bout with my mental health.

I literally cannot afford to do the courses and purchase the card to get back to work. As you can imagine it's put my mental health right back where it was, feel extremely depressed and hopeless. I've worked in the lift industry and HVAC for 10 years without an incident of injury and I can promise CSCS or any other HSE course had nothing to do with that my common sense did.

Revising from a book and using it to answer a set of any questions does not qualify you to be safe on site.

With that I'm pretty glad not going back into construction and I'd recommend the same to others. Its a shameful industry these days of meglamaniacs and bullying.

Not even a 1 star ,pisstake of a scheme you pass the test and can't even buy a card without doing another test because you need a qualification pisstake cscs money making government scheme

Absolute rip off & money making scheme,I've been working in construction for 38 years including over 20 as a groundworker & now can't get through the gate on a lot of sites coz I refuse to take part in this rip off scheme.
If a site agent or firm knows you or your recommended then the need for a card suddenly goes out the window & isn't needed.
No legal requirement for it anyway.
We've had lads come on site fully carded up & tbh useless but they've got that little green card which says they're competent & the agencies keep on sending them.
Losing out on a lot of good experienced blokes coz of this scheme

Worst company I’ve ever dealt with. You phone their customer number and not one member of staff have a clue how to help. It’s useless phoning them.
The website seems like it was designed for the 90s it’s that badly set out. Link after link after link after link.
The courses now required to get your relevant card (if you can work that out) are endless. Impossible to find a course you actually can apply for in the real world.

This test is an absolute scam that is made to take money from people who are struggling to find a job. While most of it is common sense there are some questions with multiple answers that aren’t necessarily wrong. Health and safety procedures are there to protect everyone but if you answer that on certain questions you are somehow wrong. They want you to fail this which is why they put multiple right answers in some questions to tempt you into picking the one that sounds slightly less right. The more times you fail the more money they can get from you and if you have learning difficulties there is next to no help either

The system is absolutely shambolic, three independent companies (CSCS, CITB, Pierson) who take zero responsibility and blame each other. Compouded by the fact Pierson Ltd answer the phone as CSCS but are not CSCS.

Make sure you agency recruitment person puts all your details in correct. A fault on their part has caused me to get locked out of my profile as i did not answer the one question out of 5 correclty.. tele operator was adamant and now i have lost my provisional cscs card

So, you sit an SMSTS, covering legislation, COSHH, RAMS etc. Then, for some reason, to get a labourers card (just to gain access to certain sites) you have to sit a basic days course on how to lift a box!

It astounds me how they say they do not recognise SMSTS!!!
