CIN7: Unreliable, Frustrating, and Not Fit for Purpose

Since my initial review, my experience with CIN7 has only worsened, leading me to downgrade my rating to 1 star. While the system previously had some functionality, it has now become almost unusable for our business needs. The tech support remains abysmal, and there are no solutions in sight for the numerous problems we've encountered.
One of the most critical issues is with the sales order process. CIN7's workflow—quote, to order, to pick, to pack, to fulfillment/shipping—sounds efficient in theory, but it's riddled with problems in practice. For example, voided sales orders do not automatically return stock to inventory, creating discrepancies that result in back orders. When we finally receive stock and attempt to fulfill these back orders, CIN7 won't allow us to complete the process, citing issues with individual packed packages. Despite multiple Zoom meetings with CIN7, they have no solution other than to void the items, which only exacerbates the inventory inaccuracies. This is particularly devastating for us, as we deal with stock that has expiration dates, and we've lost all ability to track batch numbers accurately.
Another significant problem involves disassembling products. We buy certain items in 1kg sizes, which we also sell in 250g packets. However, when we try to disassemble a product, CIN7 blocks the process, claiming the batch is already allocated to an order. Even though our stock levels show over 200 units available and only 2 units allocated, the system won't let us proceed. This issue is often related to the stock being stuck in the fulfillment phase (as described above) or allocated to an order that isn't due to ship for another week. CIN7's "solutions" are either to void the sales order—again leading to the same inventory problems—or to prematurely fulfill the order, which would cause us to lose complete track of our pending shipments.
As it stands, we're forced to choose between being able to sell items or maintaining an accurate inventory management system. Neither is a viable option, and we're left in a situation where our inventory is an absolute mess, and our ability to trade certain high-selling items is severely compromised.
Overall, CIN7 has proven to be unreliable, and their lack of effective support and solutions has left us with no choice but to look for alternative systems, which is painful considering all the effort, time and money spent for the initial onboarding.
INITIAL REVIEW:
I have been a user of CIN7 (previously known as Dear Inventory), and I must express my immense disappointment with the service since the company was acquired. The decline in quality and support has been significant and disheartening.
When the software works, it is quite effective. However, issues crop up frequently, disrupting our operations. The most frustrating part is the lack of support. Trying to get a response from their support team is nearly impossible. They do not reply, leaving us stranded with unresolved problems.
Additionally, the pricing structure has become confusing and unnecessarily complicated. CIN7 seems intent on squeezing every last penny from their customers, imposing nonsensical charges for basic functions that were previously included.
Overall, I am deeply dissatisfied with CIN7 and am currently exploring other options. So far, I have found several alternatives that appear to be much more reliable and customer-focused.

Post-Acquisition Decline: Avoid CIN7
Since CIN7 acquired DEAR Systems, their focus has shifted entirely from providing quality service to squeezing every penny out of their customers. The decline has been steep and disappointing.
Their pricing structure is a mess, charging for nonsensical features, and the process to close an account is absurdly difficult, requiring a 30-day notice. It's clear they make it hard on purpose to keep milking money from you.
Their customer support is virtually non-existent. They won't lift a finger to help you out. Frankly, this company and its products are not worth your time or money. There are far better options out there. Avoid them at all costs.
Unresolved issues for months
I've had registered issues for months, which they will not give me a timeline to fix. The support team and response times are terrible - the worst of any service I have ever used.
The typical request waits for a response, hours later they close because I'm no longer sitting there waiting for them to respond. They don't even look at the issue.
The sales team raved about their service when they sold us as we particularly queried it
I recommend going to a supplier that values supporting its customers. Im going to move - which changing ERP's is never easy.
Cin7 Core Review
Stone The Crows has recently transitioned from our ageing legacy ERP to Cin7 Core. It's a huge step forward for us!
With Cin7 being cloud-based, we are now freed-up from having to maintain on-premises hardware and systems, with all the maintenance, hardware and backup issues that brings.
Cloud-based also means access from anywhere via a browser, so no more local software installations to maintain for our users.
The user experience is generally very good. It is intuitive and has a logical flow to it. Best of all it is very flexible and forgiving, allowing multiple levels of "undo" as needed.
It comes with various integration options which have been very useful to us, such as the Shopify integration which we use for our primary sales website. It also integrates with finance platforms, such as Xero which we have also just switched to.
Additionally we have subscribed to the API which is also proving very useful for our reporting and additional integration needs.
There are some rough edges, inevitably, and some things which I think could do with improvement. Reporting is one such area. And stock adjustments are difficult because of the distinction at the application level between "zero stock" and "non zero stock" - I feel this is something that an end user should not have to be concerned with. Also, having the customer name as a unique identifier instead of an account code seems like a strange choice.
However, it does pretty much everything that we need, with a few additional niceties as well. Plus there are regular software updates, so who knows what the future will bring!
Nauticalia moving to Cin 7 Core
After 25 Years of using the same system it was a major step to move to Cin7 Core. With the help of Bluehub we were able to take a former Unix based company onto the web. It has revolutionised our order processing and inventory control. The flexibility of the integrations to Xero, Shiptheory and the core POS system have all added to the effectiveness of the system. Of course with all systems there are tweaks and areas where it isn't as strong as it could be. All in all it has been a great success.

Cin 7 Core is a great inventory management system which allows us to manage and process all our purchases, production and sales in one place. The customer portals allows our customers to view our product offering and place orders with ease.

Cin7 has enabled our business to grow quickly in the last couple of years. The integrations work seamlessly and with the ability to attach documents we are nearly paperless. We are still finding new approaches to transactions and look forward to see the new features when released. We do find the reporting limited so hopefully this will improve in the future
Great ERP for SMBs
Have used Cin7 Core (previously Dear) since I began in my role in Supply Chain. Really good system managing a complex business linking with many different WMS systems and accounting software etc. The best aspect however is the support function, great account management and IT support helping to quickly solve any issues that arise.
Review
The system is all online so can be accessed anywhere in the world whenever you need it which we love! It also has a really great set of standard APIs you can use for all the main integrations online businesses need. We find the reporting side is quite limited but we know that Cin 7 works on improvements so we have provided feedback to them which we hope they will use to improve the system in the future.
A great upgrade from desktop ERP systems
The system has enabled us to transfer to a cloud based ERP freeing users from their desks and helping communication throughout the business. The system has been adopted quickly by our team and with its easy visual reporting enables us to track the stages of each order. Would recommend to other manufacturers without hesitation.

Great for small wholesaler / manufacturer
In July 2023 we moved our subsidiary business onto a combination of Cin7 Core and Xero, after 15+ years on an old server-based system.
Within 3 months of going live we were better able to track profitability on stock sales and manufacture / install jobs within the system, rather than manipulating data from several sources in spreadsheets.
The link with Xero also makes it easy to produce meaningful management information with relative ease compared to what we were doing before.
We still find the odd quirk we have to find a work around for, but in general it's been a great move and in hindsight one we could / should have made a long time ago.

Cin7 core is a very efficient Inventory software package and I personally find it super easy to navigate. In my role I use the reporting function and I can always find what I need here. A huge plus is that it syncs seamlessly with Xero for our financial accounting.

It was great as DEAR and Greater as Cin7 Core! We've been using the DEAR/Cin7Core since 2015. While it was missing a few features back then, it has always been so extremely stable. We never have a point where we ask "where did that number come from". Sure, that sounds like a minor issue, but being able to follow and track the logic has allowed us to expand to a multiple, multi-million dollar warehouses and fabrication facilities. The interface has changed little, allowing use to work at the speed of our fingers without having to think and follow with every movement. The product just keeps getting better and better, and the support is incredible. The new changes in pricing and features allowed us to expand within our budget. It is always up, and support is fast. There is little more I can ask for. A great investment and incredible tool.
