TERRIBLE
TERRIBLE. I have used Gexa Energy in the past and was happy with the process and product. I tried for 3 hours to get power set up for one of my rental properties after a tenant moved out. Thought it would be a simple process. NOTHING OF THE KIND. After providing TXDL pics and proof of ownership. I had not made the application in the same name that is on my TXDL. I used my initials. This was not good for them, and so I spoke to customer service and STILL NO HELP. Avoid. They are no longer worth the time. Happy I moved to a STAR based company,
Terrible Customer Support
I need to pay my bill in cash. Should be easy right? They sent me three different places today. Each one required a bar code. The bar code on their bill doesn't work. In fact, Gexa was unable to provide a working bar code. They blamed it on the three places they sent me to. Basically they said "it's not our fault.". So now I have to find a real provider.
A pyramid scheme company
If there's a possibility for 0 stars I would give it.
I called to move from another provider. The CS mentioned while recorded that they will take care of the early termination fee up to 500$.
The final invoice came from the other company so I had to call them. They had the audacity to say that I called a third party so they wouldn't pay it. This is scamming I broad daylight. Its a waste of time and utter disappointment for such companies to be in business.
New Texan
We moved here last year from SC. The electric here is all screwed up. Way too many gimmicks to rip you off. When we got here GEXA looked good since we had no experience navigating this crazy system. What we've experienced; Most power companies will take advantage of you. When they say 12.1 cents per Kwh, it actually comes out to .17 cents per Kwh for us doing the math. Renewal time is coming and we'll be going with BKV Energy which has a true fixed rate of .14 cents per Kwh and we won't be chasing Kwh to get a discount. It's up front in the actual price per Kwh. Live and learn.
For decades we paid on the 2nd. This time a fee for it.
We have always paid our bill on the second of every month like clockwork for many years. This month they made the bill due on the 31st, New Year's Eve. The 1st was New Year's Day and the second is the normal day we pay. We went to the website on the 2nd to pay the bill and they tacked on a $25 dollar disconnect fee. I am outraged...they changed the due date and counted a holiday. It was a low usage month. Guess they needed extra money so they made up new dates and the holiday to their advantage. I will be watching my electricity and continue to keep it low so they don't make anything off me again. I still can't get over getting a disconnect fee after they read the meter a week before. Stay away from Gexa. They do sneaky things.
I jumped from the frying pan into the…
I jumped from the frying pan into the fire. I have never in my lifetime paid so much for electricity. I am a senior on a fixed income and this summer so far, I have paid an estimate of over $$2000 for electricity, my highest bill this month of $488. You are OK if you don't use your air condition, but that's impossible when you live in Texas. Can't wait until my contract is up.
Gexa’s customer service agents are…
Gexa’s customer service agents are polite, but the company itself is deceptive and predatory. They punish loyal, returning customers with outrageous fees—I was charged a $300 cancellation penalty. The shocking part? Even after paying that fee, I’ll save over $1,000 by switching away. That tells you everything you need to know. I hope this company loses every single customer until they stop gouging people.
Difficult to get signed up
I had been a customer before. I never had a problem with them. I tried to sign up today to transfer my service over. I have spent at least an hour with them. My credit report was fine, but I needed to provide "additional documentation." My mail server said their mail server received it, but it has not made it into their system. I have sent the documentation from multiple addresses. I am still not signed up. Will try one last call shortly. Updated. Last call did nothing. I did receive a call several hours later saying they waived the ID requirements and I was approved for service.
They said the rate was 10.2 per kWh but…
They said the rate was 10.2 per kWh but I’ve never seen it they are charging me around 20. I’ve took several surveys and they say they will give me a call but never do.
Worst electricity company ever
Worst electricity company ever, must be owned by a 3rd world country…. If you don’t pay on the due date, they hit you with 5% late fees… and they don’t tell you, also a $20 billed cancellation fee…. Which starts in 10 days, worst company ever…. Never seen anything like these morons…. They can’t wait 7 days for their payment, they get upset like a 5 year old…. They start texting, and emailing saying you are late, we are gonna disconnect you… 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I am glad there’s 100 other companies in Texas to choose from…
The absolute worst experience
The absolute worst experience. The fact that EVERY REVIEW is either a 1 star or a 2 star review, with NOT EVEN ONE 3, 4 or 5 star review, says it all. After my first letter to Mr. Ketchum, his sycophant, nice as she was offered a bone if I would not sue them. I made a mistake and accepted it because we were already on the phone for over an hour and a half. After receiving a new charge card, what should have taken three or four minutes on the phone, as with the last company I updated, and spending more than 40 minutes on the phone, it still wasn't done. They talk about not having secure phones. I guess if they think they can't dazzle me with brilliance they will baffle me with bull! That is not true. Mr. Ketchum, because your staff lied to me, it is as you lied to me. You violated the terms of the contact; therefore, it is nullified. Contracts that are violated are not enforceable in a court of law. If you do not want my new number, game on. You will not get it, and, by the way, I have spent most of the last two days writing a class action law suit.
I've paid my bill, I got a confirmation from my bac but ....
I would give them no Stars but it makes me give at least 1 :( , I've paid my bill and got a confirmation from my bank, sent them the confirmation by email and after some time my email was rejected! possibly because of the attachment?, I wish I had read the reviews before I picked this Gexa Energy!
Gexa was a $295 lesson in reading and…
Gexa was a $295 lesson in reading and understanding the Texas EFL (energy facts label). Their quoting system indicated that I would pay 11.9 cents per 1000 KwH. Due to my responsible energy habits (termostat set at 78 in summer and 67 in winter) I thought this a good deal. Nope.
The real rate is 23.9 cents for the first 500 KwH. My average energy usage is less than 1000KwH making this the worst plan possible. Sure, I get $115 back if I exceed 1000KwH but that happens only 3 months of the year. Just under 1000KwH means about $230/month electricity bill.
Learn to read the EFL!
BTW, never go with a company that sponsors/owns rights to a sporting team stadium! I should have known. My bad.
I agree with most reviews here
I agree with most reviews here.
Gexa doesn't seem to care. Here in Frisco OnCor is super unreliable. Constant outages. OnCor refusing to fix it permanently and no breaks for the outages.
I wrote them an email asking for a refund for the time I was down. No refund. Talk to OnCor. Oncor says talk tk Gexa and problem is never resolved.
Reviewing my bill I see that with the outage or no outage I was billed the same meaning they didn't take into account the outage times.
On renewal they didn't offer same plan I had. Instead gave me one option to switch to a plan 5 cents per kilowatt hour higher.
I tried to switch but most other companies were higher than they were unless it was one of the lesser known companies with variable rates. Which I wasn't going to do.
I didn't see the discrepancy in my bills that others here claim with prices adjustments, I have a fixed plan. I'd assume they have a variable plan.
Price has been relatively the same +\- the amount used difference per month.
I decided to keep them for the mean time but have a close eye. If they continue and screw me over more then I'm switching.
But then again previously I've dealt with other companies here in the Dallas region and they all had issues. If I had to pick one I had the best experience with even though it still wasn't great it would be txu energy.
Keep an eye on your bill if you deal with this power provider.
Terrible Customer Service
8/26/2024.. Was lied to by multiple representatives about service.. been a loyal
Customer since 2010 and they refused to work with me on a high bill which didn’t make sense.. Disconnected service after I was told I wouldn’t be if I paid a certain amount.. paid that amount and was disconnected and telling me I had to pay close to $1000 to get it back restored.. said I had someone in my home on a breathing machine and was told “can’t do nothing for you” it’s 100 degrees in Texas and now 80+ in my Home.. no loyalty to customers only they only want your money and showed 0 compassion.. taking my service elsewhere
Avoid Gexa energy at all cost
Gexa energy signed on and was giver this promo.
60-day satisfaction guarantee
New customers can switch to a different Gexa
Energy plan without paying an early cancellation fee within 60 days of enrollment.
After 20 days I searched for lower cost packages on power to choose which is my go to site for all offerings for energy packages .
Gexa was offering a package 7 cents a kWh lower in cost than what I signed up for 23 days earlier . The representative denied that I was unable to proceed with this decision and stated I was on the lowest package that they had to offer.
My suggestion before signing up for energy is to run as fast as you can in the opposite direction
Beware of Gexa Energy's Misleading Practices!
I recently tried to sign up for Gexa Energy's Gexa Eco Saver Premier 12 plan and had a frustrating experience. Their customer service rep assured me that providing certain documentation would waive the security deposit. Despite spending hours retrieving and sending the required document, I was later told it wasn't sufficient.
This feels like a bait-and-switch tactic. I wasted time and effort based on false assurances. If this is how Gexa Energy treats potential customers, I can't imagine how they'd handle actual service issues. Proceed with caution!
Gexa/SaveOnEnergy-Michael Review…
Assisted by an agent named Michael, who promoted Gexa stating an all inclusive across the board, regardless of how many kW used would be 14.5ç, except if used EXACTLY 2000 kW, which he stated would never occur. We spoke for several hours, knew a I lived at my current address for 14 years. He spoke in a very personal manor, as if a good friend. He even stated to have a “Tingle” moment as if I was a father he never had. I gave an example that last month used 1138 kW and bill was $134. What would my “Total” bill be with the plan he was promoting, 14.5ç/kWh. Stated $135, one more dollar. After agreeing, received greeting email which had the ELF link. Upon checking to verify what he promised, I find the quote did NOT include TDU charges, and NOT 14.5ç across the board; but, actually 20.9ç/kWh. He knew exactly what he was doing, and tricked me into a plan deliberately giving me mis-information, lying. During the set up he stated to be going into military mode to me to quote my Social Security number. I discovered later from many other providers that this number is NOT required as he stated to set up service. Direct Energy was happy with my Texas DL. Now, I fear what have I done giving this information out to such a deceptive and misleading person. I was devastated that my trust placed with this person was horribly mis-placed.
How could someone so deceptively lie so many times, when he could have easily given me the correct information. We only recently have been deregulated here; and, no one is understanding how to handle so many different versions of the charges, and withholding charges, even when asking directly “What are ALL the differenet charges?” “Are there ANY charges other than what we have been discussing. Answer by Michael of “Save On Energy” “NO”.
We all notice that everyone works from home. There is no real business location for these agents representing services. That all session are recorded. However, I noticed that I heard many clicks and hesitations in interactions from this agent, leading me to be concerned if he in some way was creating blank spaces in the conversation that might implicate his malicious behavior. He was selling a Gexa Plan, so not an employee of Gexa. I made a formal complaint through Gexa; and, several agents apologized for what occurred; however, even though I called to cancel within one hour of completing the set up to be cancelled, my information had not been processed, and told by 2 different agents and a Supervisor that I would not be subjected to their $300 cancelation fee due to the timely action, and the circumstances. This I recorded from Gexa Agent Angel and Kimberly, this promise of transferring me back to my original plan with Direct Energy, and would not be subject to any fees.
The next day I get a welcome to Gexa email. Called to see what the status was. This all started Sunday 6/9/2924, and continued through today Friday 06/14/24. Each day talking hours on the phone being told not to worry, that I would be transferred back to Direct Energy without issue. Today, Friday, 06/14/24 I received call from Gexa to tell me they processed my personal information received from Michael and calling to tell me that the Supervisor request from Direct Energy to cancel was rejected. Michael set my account as a new MOVE IN customer, which is false, and he knew very well I lived here 14 years. It was discussed at length. Yet, because of this way of setting up my account Gexa could reject or Rescind the request from Direct Energy; and, that unless I contacted Direct Energy and started with a completely NEW account, I was stuck with Gexa Plan, which is a terrible plan with summer here.
This has turned into a complete nightmare, and another several hours speaking with Direct Energy, again today; and, I still have no idea what is going to happen. You cannot connect with the same person with any of these services. You always get someone different, each stating something different. Each time having to start over again, trying to refer to notes that some have placed, some have not
I place this review here to warn people not to trust the entity “Save On Energy”. They are not directly a provider. Salespeople with some without ethics, and have lied to me directly when asked the same question several times to verify the plan’s terms.
Beware, and Be Aware..

Check Your Meter Reading
Lost power on 5/28/24 at 6:30 am and did not have power restored till 6/1/24 Around 11:10 am due to bad storms in Dallas. According to Gexa I supposedly used 122.999kw of power between those days even though my family and i was sitting in the dark. Oncore even agreed with me and said i did not have power and proved it as well. Gexa kept insisting that it was a meter reading which is false. still waiting for Gexa to correct this issue. otherwise i will have to take this to the state and media
Great new customer pricing, but renewal plans are fairly deceptive
They are generally great when you sign up provided you pay attention to how varied the pricing can be. The service and responsiveness is very good, as is the information regarding usage on their website. However, once you have been signed up with them, a lot of of their electricity plans seem like a good deal, unless you go over or under the target kilowatt hour that they set. For example, it might be $.12 per kilowatt hour at over 2000 kWh, but it jumps to $.18 per kilowatt hour if he use under 2000 kWh. That’s because you get $125 credit for using over 2000 kWh. The whole pricing scheme just seems like a scam to overcharge their unsophisticated customers. I was a very happy customer and would’ve stayed with them, but I would’ve been totally hosed and some of the Spring and Fall months when my usage drops. It’s a shame that they bait you with a good deal as a new customer and then force you to switch. Although, this practice is not atypical in the North Texas electric market.
