Mercari has no seller protection…

Mercari has no seller protection program. Seller beware, if a buyer changes their mind, mercari will approve the return and you'll loose the money you paid for shipping, to say the least...you could also loose the value of your item...
Shame on me for not trusting the bad reviews about this platform. Do not sell expensive things on there.

Stay away from this compony

Stay away from this compony, purchased new Fragrance and received filthy dirty bottle with broken atomizer and refilled with something else to fill it up to make it full. Disgusting and due to COVID 19 Mercari doesnt take any calls, and doesnt respond to messages. Will be opening case thru bank as soon as i receive all i bought and get paid for the item sold. By the way if you want the Money to your bank they charge $2 additional for the service not counting the selling fees. so if you sell something there you have to spend that money there. Ridiculous!!!

The good, the bad and the ugly.

Out of many buys and sells on mercari I have only had one terribly bad experience and I concur with the others as far as the customer service. It is Dreadful. De freelance it out to people from another country obviously because reading the English language and comprehending the English language when it's a second language are two totally different animals. Overall I've had reasonable success on Mercari and do not plan to stop buying or selling. Having said that, I take every precaution to protect myself by photographing documenting and knowing what's going on with my items at all times. Hope this helps other people. One more point before I go, not all sellers are monsters, thieves, Crooks Etc. Most of us are just stay at home Moms making extra money or retired people trying to make extra money we are not the evil that some of these reviews have portrayed. Please don't lump us all then with the bad guys. The good guys are still out there!

Please upgrade the app to protect EVERYONE from horrible sellers and buyers. Please!

This app offers no protection for sellers at all. A selling platform should care about both sellers and buyers but they do not. Customer service gives automotive responses. Social media isn't any better. They refuse to change. This app is filled with dishonest people. When someone stalks you there is no way to block them completely. Users can have multiple accounts and break the rules. No matter what a rating says they claim it's true, even if a buyer lies! Theirs literally nothing you can do when you recieved a damaged item unless they choose mercari ship method..but they don't tell sellers this. Sellers wait far past 3 day to ship. Horrible sellers lie in description. There's no punishments for breaking rules. People steal your photos constantly. I've been trying to get an issue resolved for 2 weeks. They still keep sending the same automotive responses. This is ridiculous. How can you treat your users this way?! Your rules are also filled w holes allowing many if the things I mentioned. Why is that? Whoever runs this thing is really behind on the times. They cant even keep up with what this app is supposed to offer! A SAFE enjoyable buying/selling experience.

Do not do business with Mercari

Do not do business with Mercari. I ordered a pair of boxing gloves for 75 bucks, 80 dollars and some change with tax. The confirmation said my order was placed. About an hour later i received a message on Mercari from the seller stating that they will not ship the merchandise until i post a photo on my Mercari account. I said what? I never heard of anything like this. I paid for the gloves thru paypal. My bank account has already been debited. They wanted a Photo first, this the craziest thing i have ever heard of. The seller stated that the reason for this is that they fear that once i get the item i will cancel the paypal. What? Im quite sure mercari should have some insurance set in place for the sellers. The fact that a seller wants to see a photo attached to my account is stupid. Ive purchased off EBay, Amazon, WIsh etc. and ive never had this horrible experience before. The seller said they dont get paid by mercari until i get my merchandise.....well then if youve sold many items on mercari then as a seller you should know that you will get paid from them or file a claim with mercari. IM just a buyer a consumer that has paid for my purchase the rest is on you and i shouldnt have to show a photograph to do business. Buyer beware of mercari. From now on im only dealing with Amazon.

Mercari is removing peoples listings accusing them of posting wipes hand sanitizers and face masks and freezes your account for 24hrs. When you write to them and question it because you are not listing any of those items they either ignore you or say u have to wait for escalations to review your account. Then you browse what's being sold and theres so many listings for that stuff being sold and your account is still frozen. Mercari customer service is HORRIBLE. JUST HORRIBLE biased and they dont answer your question half the time. Started selling in other apps and much better.

Beware of this company

Beware of this company.

I had purchased a Hearth and Hand Treehouse for $120 through Mercari a couple weeks ago. The seller shipped the item through UPS but when it was “delivered” it was only the shipping paper with label (no box or items) I was delivered paper with a shipping label. I contacted UPS and the seller right away and they were unable to locate the item and ruled it as “packaged damaged during transit”

When I contacted Mercari regarding a refund to original payment they refused. They said there was no way of knowing where the package went missing / was damaged. (Pretty much calling me a liar) I had sent them photos time stamped from our home security system to prove how the PAPER was dropped off my UPS. They still refused and were only willing to issue Mercari credit which would expire in 30 days.

I have since filed a claim with my bank since I never received the item which I purchase from Mercari and they are unwilling to refund to the original form of payment.

Mercari has frozen my account and refuses to unfreeze it until I drop the claim with my bank. They can keep it frozen for all I care. I will never be buying or selling with them again.

Beware if you are a seller.

Beware of their shady return policy. A buyer can basically change their mind( although they list they will not accept returns because "you change your mind") and they falsely claim the item was not "as advertised" and do this without any evidence, such as photos. The seller has no say in the return, even if you "refuse" the return, it is overruled by Mercari and you seller pays for the return of the item. I asked specifics about why Mercari accepted this return and I asked to send them photos of the returned item which had been damaged was their email response..."I'm sorry that you didn't get the resolution you were hoping for, but it's our determination, and it will not be changing".

A "Run Away" rating for Mercari

If I could give a "Run Away" rating, Mercari would be a shining example of why not to use a app to sell.

For 10% of the price of the item, they offer zero customer service. Let me emphasize that...you pay them 10% of your item on their site (which you could do for free or far less other places) and they take your money and won' t talk to you.

There is NO WAY to contact them at all.

Wait, its gets far worse. They arbitrary remove your listings. Again, for no reason whatsoever. You will get an email with a form explanation of "we removed your listing per our guidelines" but that means they have no reason. Look at their guidelines and see that chances are, you are in compliance.

But who can you call? Not Mercari. No phone service, no emails.

EVERY OTHER online selling app has some sort of way to connect, especially for fee-based services.

Not convinced? They push you to sell 20%or more below your bottom number. Here's how; you list an item, then they automatically apply "Smart Listing" which will decrease the selling price of your item. You can turn it off IF you catch it but honestly, they default and turn it back on anyways.

If you increase your selling amount to give a cushion for this inevitable decrease in your pricing...they remove your listing. You aren't in their "guidelines." They to figure that one out.

Once you have sold anything,you MUST rate the buyer but...here's a fun catch, the buyer is under no obligation to rate you. Which, you would think for that 10% per item, they would try to help you for all the money you provide to them.

Want to be frustrated, angry, upset and waste a lot of time? Then Mercari is a 5 star experience.

Want to sell your things in a positive proactive partnership? Then run, don't walk, from this waking nightmare of a company.

Someone bought my iMac on Mercari and
I shipped it and when it got to the ladies location she messaged me and said that the iMac had a crack on the right part of the screen and she said it looked like UPS had dropped it....
She wanted a refund which is understandable so we both messaged Mercari (which is a freaking joke)!
She requested a refund & I filed a claim to get some of my money back well they refunded her and I got a message yesterday saying that they denied my claim because the iMac wasn’t packaged properly🙄
So I messaged Mercari back yesterday (after I started bawling because I just lost my money and a computer that I can’t sell anymore because it has a crack in it) and the lady named Romona just messaged me back little bit ago and said this

It was packaged really well so I don’t know how they determined that? It’s not fair that I can’t even look at it and I can’t even see what was wrong...
I would have really liked to see pictures of it before anyone determined anything...
Now you guys just screwed me out of my money... you are supposed protect your sellers but I don’t see that happening...
I need to speak to someone higher...
It better not be even more broken when I get it back...

I found what she said after what I said above!

And she messaged back and said this...

Before making a decision your buyer was required to provide us with photos of the item and packing materials used and with the help of this information we made our decision.

I couldn’t even respond to that because she took off the ability for me to comment...
So I preceded to call customer service ( they close at 5:00 pm pacific standard time & I called at 7:01 pm central standard time; I didn’t know they closed at 5:00 pm PST) and was on the phone for 20 min before they decided to reject my call..
This is complete crap because I packaged it very well!! Like why would I not want to package my expensive iMac really well? I wouldn’t have wanted it to break... So that’s complete bullcrap!!
So I’m going to call back tomorrow and hopefully get someone that can help me...
If they can’t help I’ll be getting a lawyer...

HORRIBLE customer service and sellers

HORRIBLE customer service and sellers! The item I received clearly didn't match the photos in the original listing. I sent photos of it to customer service, they took days to respond until saying the denied the refund request and didn't even give me the option to leave negative feedback to the seller. I will NEVER use this site to purchase ever again!

Let's just say I wasn't surprised to…

Let's just say I wasn't surprised to find that Mercari got other bad reviews. I don't know if I've worked with an online company that is worse than Mercari. I guess it deserves one star for the one time I used customer service and the gentleman helped me out. Besides that, the company sucks, especially in terms of customer service.

When I first joined I was rolling along merrily, purchasing things here and there. Then I got a notification that if I intended to continue shopping with them I would have to install their phone app. I use my laptop to shop and didn't want to put the app on my phone, so I quit shopping there.

Later I decided I wanted to buy something on the site and succumbed to their demands (or tried to). I tried to install the app, but then it made me take pics of myself; apparently they use facial recognition programs on their phone app,, and I am ethically opposed to them, because the systems are racially biased. So I didn't continue my account update/phone app.

Later I decided to install the phone app (and wasn't prompted to take my pic) , and I purchased something on the site. Hours later my purchase was canceled and I got a form letter from them saying I had 2 separate accounts which is against the rules, and they canceled my account. They don't try to contact you and work it out or consider you a valued customer. It's just "you messed up - Bye Boi! Click".
I don't think I've ever written I negative ad on Trustpilot before, I usually only write good ones. Mercari, though, stands in a field of its own in terms of how bad it sucks, and it deserves to be reviewed so people are warned.

It wouldn't surprise me if Mercari was a front for Homeland Security or some other suspicious entity that wants you to give away your info cluelessly.

Really not good.

Mercari has the worst customer service…

Mercari has the worst customer service for sellers. Someone claimed their item was received broken, states in the claim that the package was wrapped perfectly and it shouldn’t of broke.
I was told no refund because the weight was wrong. I sent multiple responses so Mercari about the issue. They then just stopped responding and closed the case. The weight wasn’t off, I wanted to see pictures of the broken item. They told me they don’t show the proof to the sellers they handle it all in house. I’m now out the cost of the item and the free shipping I offered.
They were no help whatsoever. I’ll stick to Posh and eBay. What a joke.
