We regretted booking this holiday.
I was requested by F***** to enter a review on our recent trip with Wendy Wu to Malaysia, Borneo & Singapore, this being our fourth Wendy Wu holiday, but regrettably their website would not publish the review which follows.
We specifically chose this holiday for the train journey as well as seeing Orangutans in their natural habitat.
The content of the holiday was mostly good, although parts of it were very disappointing.
If I've not mentioned anything then it was per the comprehensive itinerary. I have only mentioned the parts we were not satisfied with.
We were not allowed to choose our British Airways seats until 24 hours before departure unless we paid considerably over £100, per person, per flight.
Upon trying to check in all seats were taken, so we still could not choose them.
I phoned W.W.'s emergency contact to to told: “There was nothing he could do as it was Saturday, arrive early at the Airport & sort it out with B.A.” Which we did, to find that B.A. had allocated us seats, but on different sides of the plane, both sitting next to strangers for almost a 14 hour flight.
Again on our internal flight from Kuala Lumper to Penang we were sat next to strangers.
The transfer from Penang Airport was considerably over 30 minutes late arriving to collect us.
After having now been in transit for over 18 hours the uncertainty of will our transfer actually arrive was not needed.
Penang was interesting, the hotel & food were good & everything followed the itinerary.
Kuala Lumper was again interesting, also with a good hotel & food.
On the evening of day 7 our Guide gave us the following days briefing for our visit to Malacca, but the return train journey was not mentioned, obviously this was queried & an apology
“For forgetting” was given by our Guide. Alarm bells instantly rang with my wife & myself!
There was very little to see in Malacca apart from shops & we were given much too much free time. There was ample time to visit the “Hands-on Chinese-paper cutting workshop” listed in our itinerary, but we did not. Having been given all of this free time it was blatantly obvious we would struggle to catch the train back to Kuala Lumper.
We arrived at the station & had not even gone through the entrance barrier before our train arrived, so obviously we were not allowed to enter the platform therefore missing the train.
No explanation was given why we had left Malacca without sufficient time to catch the train, although it was obvious the previous day we would not be returning to K.L. by rail.
The highlight of our holiday was to have been our visit to Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre. This experience was extremely disappointing, although we do not blame W.W. directly, it appears the whole visit is just a fund raising exercise by the Centre.
Our local guide was excellent & we were at the front of the feeding platform before a Ranger appeared from the Forest with a basket of food, followed by an Orangutan which promptly disappeared into the jungle.
Another Orangutan climbed down an adjoining tree carrying a baby. This Orangutan soon ate what she wanted before climbing back up the tree out of sight.
We were then taken to the Nursery where we viewed several young Orangutans playing the other side of a glass screen, which was nice, but this can be seen in several Zoos throughout the World, including England.
On our walk back along the raised boardwalk one of our group caught a glimpse of an Orangutan in the Forest, but as the view was obscured by two security guards demanding we keep walking, most of us did not see anything.
Although Borneo was interesting & the people charming we would not have considered visiting the Country had we realised this was all we would see of the Orangutans.
Singapore totally followed the itinerary & our Guide again excellent, but the Mercure hotel room was abysmally small, with a small bed, nowhere to put our bags, no chairs to sit on & a pre-fabricated, opaque glass shower & toilet, both of which were see-through.
To summarise; had we realised what the actual content of this holiday would be, we would not have booked it.

"Thank you for taking the time to leave such a detailed reviews. We are genuinely pleased that many elements of the itinerary, such as the hotels and food in Penang and Kuala Lumpur, as well as your excellent local guides in Borneo and Singapore, met your expectations, and we appreciate you highlighting those positives. However, we are very sorry to learn about the specific areas you were unhappy with, and we value the opportunity to address each point.
First, regarding your British Airways seating, I want to clarify our policy. The only way to guarantee seats together is to contact the airline directly prior to departure and pay their seat‑selection fee. For those who prefer not to pay, the seats are released for free selection during online check‑in, which opens exactly 24 hours before departure, but these are subject to availability on a first‑come, first‑served basis. We cannot guarantee adjacent seats through that process. When you called our emergency number, our colleague correctly advised you to take the matter up with BA at the airport, as we have no means to override the airline’s seating system. We understand how frustrating it was to be separated on such a long flight, and we will review how we communicate this seating policy to future guests so that the process is much clearer from the outset.
Turning to the Penang Airport transfer, we are sorry that it was over 30 minutes late. After more than 18 hours in transit, the added uncertainty is the last thing anyone needs, and we will be addressing this punctuality issue directly with our local ground handler to prevent a recurrence. We are also concerned about the logistical problems in Malacca. It is regrettable that your guide overlooked mentioning the return train journey during the briefing, and we agree that the amount of free time given appears to have been poorly balanced against the train schedule. Missing the train due to insufficient arrival time is regrettable, and we will be reviewing the timing and scheduling of this specific day. The highlight of your holiday was Sepilok, and we are genuinely saddened that it proved so disappointing. We fully appreciate that seeing orangutans in their natural habitat was a primary reason for choosing this trip. While we do not manage the centre’s feeding protocols or ranger activities, we will certainly review the current visitor experience with them, particularly regarding the security staff rushing guests along the boardwalk and we will also update our pre‑departure information to give a more realistic expectation of what the feeding platform viewing entails, so that future travellers can make a fully informed choice. Regarding the Singapore Mercure hotel, we note your feedback on the room. We are aware that city‑centre properties in Singapore tend to have compact rooms, but the specific issues you raised the lack of storage, limited seating, and the poorly designed opaque bathroom are certainly disappointing. We will raise these points directly with the hotel management and review the room categories we allocate to our guests. Once again, thank you for your thorough and fair feedback; it is invaluable in helping us refine our itineraries and communications.
Please do let me know if you have any further questions regarding the airline seating policy or any other aspect of your trip. We hope that, despite these setbacks, you were still able to treasure some positive moments from your time in Borneo and Singapore.

Very disappointing response post holiday
We travelled as a group of 4 ppl for the 8 Nt India's Tigers & Golden Triangle Tour with Wendy Wu Tours. This was part of a 3-week holiday, with the tour first followed by a 12-day cruise.
This was one of the most disappointing holidays I have experienced. During the trip I became seriously ill with gastrointestinal symptoms and required medical treatment, including IV fluids. Several members of our organised group also became unwell around the same time.
The illness resulted in a significant portion of my holiday being lost, including periods of isolation in my cabin. While I appreciate that illness can occur when travelling, I was disappointed by the way my complaint was handled afterwards.
Following my return, I provided details of my experience and supporting evidence. The compensation offered did not, in my view, fairly reflect the disruption and loss of enjoyment suffered, and I therefore declined it.
I can only comment on my own experience, but based on what happened, I would not choose to book with Wendy Wu Tours again

Enchanting China tour. A fantastic eye opening tour starting in Beijing and ending in Shanghai. It encompassed all the main sites that didn’t disappoint. Too many highlights and impossible to pick just one from the Great Wall, Terracotta Army, Pandas, bullet trains and Shangai. Throughout our tour we were constantly cared for by George Pu and ably assisted by the local guides Mi, Jenny and Darcy. Nothing was too much trouble for George throughout the tour and he ensured we learnt about his beloved China.

Wonderful experience from start to…
Wonderful experience from start to finish ,Nancy our main tour guide and her fellow colleagues were outstanding.
We were on a China tour to the Great Wall ,Terracotta warriors ,Talisman Square ,Bullet train ,with additional points of interest,finishing at Shanghai then onward to a cruise round Japan .
Wendy Wu to be honest I’d never heard of ,they would be our guide on the China leg ,we knew it would be extremely busy experience although unsure how it would work .
From the airport at Bejing we were greeted by a member of staff taken to the first of three hotels where Nancy would take over and be goodness she did ,never away from ourselves with her guidance and knowledge,till we got onboard our Cruise,a gem of a woman .
Tours ,points of interest,accommodation and food ,excellent.

Enchanting China 17 day tour
We have recently returned from our 17 day, Enchanting China tour. A fantastic eye opening tour starting in Beijing and ending in Shanghai. It encompassed all the main sites that didn’t disappoint. Too many highlights and impossible to pick just one from the Great Wall, Terracotta Army, Pandas, bullet trains and the lights of Shanghai. The UK could certainly learn how to complete a high speed rail efficiently. Throughout our tour we were constantly cared for by George Pu and ably assisted by the local guides Mi, Jenny and Darcy. Nothing was too much trouble for George throughout the tour and he ensured we learnt about his beloved China.
It was a good mix of tours and also down time, the River cruise gave us a different perspective and relaxation time.
Our lovely travel companions from NZ, Australia, Ireland and Scotland enhanced the experience and helped us celebrate our 41st Wedding anniversary.
A few of the hotels are a little tired and could do with some tlc, but did not detract from our holiday in anyway.

Enchanting China
We recently finished a 17 day Enchanting China Trip. From the moment we were picked up in Beijing airport to drop-off at Shanghei airport everything was extremely well organised and easy.
We were able to pick and choose optional tours and had downtime as well so not too hectic.
Downloading an e sim and alipay before getting to China made communication and payment simple as was getting cash from ATM at recommended banks.
China was great to visit , made especially enjoyable by our fantastic guide George Pu . He was well organised and kept our group of 17-Brits,Australians and Kiwis on track and had a wealth of knowledge about the history and culture of his homeland. Our local guides Mi, Penny and Darcy added to the experience in their respective cities.
Overall a great experience and would thoroughly recommend to anyone visiting China for the first time.

I was part of the above group who travelled to China with Wendy Wu tours and I am writing to express my heartfelt appreciation for Alison Li, who served as our National Escort during our tailor-made tour of China organised by Wendy Wu Tours.
Our group consisted of ten travellers, all in our seventies — four couples and two friends — and from the very moment Alison met us at Beijing Airport, she made us feel completely at ease. Within minutes of arriving at our first hotel, the Fairmont Beijing, she had already won us over with her warmth, enthusiasm, and genuine care for every member of our group.
Over the course of our remarkable journey — taking in Beijing, Xi’an, Chengdu, Chongqing, Zhangjiajie, Guilin, Yangzhou, Hangzhou, Suzhou, and Shanghai — Alison was with us every step of the way. She ensured that every detail was perfectly arranged, from dinner reservations on our very first evening to seamless transfers throughout the entire tour. Nothing was ever too much trouble.
What truly sets Alison apart is her personality. She is gregarious, attentive, and wonderfully caring — qualities that transformed a group of ten individuals into a family. She brought China to life for us, not just as a professional guide, but as a genuine ambassador for her country and its culture. We laughed together, explored together, and felt completely safe and looked after throughout.
Alison is, without question, one of the finest guides any of us have ever had the pleasure of travelling with. She is a tremendous credit to Wendy Wu Tours, and we cannot recommend her highly enough. Any group fortunate enough to travel with Alison is in the very best of hands.

Our tour guide, Louis was excellent. We had a very well organised tour and enjoyed it throroughly. We saw so many sights and enjoyed sampling the various Chinese dishes from all the regions we travelled in.

We have just returned from an outstanding Enchanting China tour. Beijing, Xian, ,Chengdu and Shanghai, huge cities with fascinating histories, modern skyscrapers, and linked by bullet trains, left us amazed. The 17‑day Wendy Wu tour of China, Tibet and Mt Everest was exceptionally well organised, with the itinerary carefully planned so that those of us not accustomed to high altitude could adjust comfortably. China and Tibet were truly eye‑opening — remarkable places that challenged many of our assumptions as Western travellers.
Our local guide, Addison, made the entire journey even more enjoyable. His knowledge, warmth and ability to explain the history and rapid development across the regions we visited gave us a much deeper understanding of what we were seeing.
The tour is easily a five‑star experience, as is the wonderful 10‑minute video Addison created from the trip. Overall, we had a fabulous time.

Really worth doing!
Everything about the tour was really well organised, including 2 late alterations to our internal connecting flights into & out of China.
the National Tour guide, Nick, was with us from start to finish and did a fantastic job of involving everyone in the group and keeping us all well informed.
the local guides were also very good and informative.
if anything there was too much food!!
The only minor criticism was that on most of the days there was little time to change before dinner so we were in the same clothes all day!

A Great China 🇨🇳 and Japan 🇯🇵 Tour
Just back from an amazing and enjoyable group tour of China 🇨🇳 and Japan 🇯🇵. It did what it said in the tin - we saw everything on the list.
In China, George was a fabulous guide, great knowledge and commentary and a really nice guy - nothing was too much trouble- couldn’t have been better.
The same could be said of Hiroshi in Japan , who went out of his way to make our trip so enjoyable- luck not on our side when the only day of bad weather forced cancellation of Lough Ashi cruise and cable car but he substituted the Art Museum and the famous Tokyo Shibuya scramble crossing.
In addition the local guides were all excellent and entertaining.
We also enjoyed the fact that we had a lovely group of people with us and got on so well together.
Personally we would have liked a few longer breaks, especially to settle into each new hotel but appreciate the fact that it was a once- off trip and the aim was to cover as much as possible in 19 days !
Thoroughly recommend Wendy Wu for China and Japan - thanks so much again to George and Hiroshi for making it the trip of a lifetime !

Our tour guide Andy Zhao made our trip. His knowledge and expertise made our tour run smoothly we were able to enjoy our very busy holiday, you do see a lot on this trip with local guides along the way to keep you informed.

Wonders of China trip May 26 with Wendy Wu was amazing. China itself is a fascinating country to visit. The organisation of the trip was perfect. Our guides were informative about the history and culture of China. A big shout out to Addison, 5* is not enough. To Linda , Oscar and all our other guides who made the trips a wonderful experience. We will definitely travel with Wendy Wu again in the future.
