You're quite right in thinking that Checkmyfile is a great place to keep an eye on your credit health! So far as things that set us apart from other services go, the key differences are the level of detail you can see with Checkmyfile and the level of support we can offer.

We're the only service in the UK that returns your data from all three credit reference agencies- Equifax, TransUnion and Experian. We also show you your full report from these three agencies, not just your credit score.

This level of detail makes Checkmyfile a great tool to use ahead of a credit application, but it can also help you keep on top of your finances. You can monitor all of your credit agreements (as well as public info, like court judgements, insolvencies and your Electoral Roll listing) in one convenient place!

Checkmyfile is a subscription-based service, and we offer every customer one free trial so they can explore the platform and see the value of viewing all their credit information in one place. After the trial, a subscription is required because we purchase your data directly from Experian, Equifax and TransUnion to provide a comprehensive, easy-to-understand report, along with in-depth analysis and exceptionally high levels of customer support.

Our service also includes a dispute resolution service, where our team can raise disputes on your behalf with the credit agencies if something doesn’t look quite right. The subscription cost covers daily updates to your credit report, and access remains available for the full period paid for, even if you decide to cancel the subscription.

For those who prefer a free option, the credit reference agencies themselves offer free statutory credit reports, which can be requested directly from them.

It's great to hear that you appreciate how thorough your report is! We return your credit report from all three credit reference agencies -Equifax, Experian and TransUnion - so that you can see everything a lender might see when you apply for credit.

While there are plenty of practical reasons to want to view your historical data, there's a good reason why your credit report only goes back so far.

Most information (at least, the kind of information that impacts your credit score) ages off your report after 6 years. For example, closed accounts fall off your report after 6 years from their closure date. 

This time limit is there to prevent old debts and payment information from affecting you permanently. 

Because information that's aged off your report isn't stored by the agencies, and can't be returned in a credit check, it also can't appear on your Checkmyfile report.

I hope this has helped to explain the limitations of your credit report. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to our team or take a look at the resources in our online Help Centre!
