MANY TEARS EXPERIENCE
We have now been lucky enough to be able to adopt two adorable dogs from Many Tears. On both occasions the communication from Many Tears has been incredible.
First occasion we applied to adopt MT Logic (now Mabel) who is missing her back paws. We were called by the application team very quickly who quizzed us on why we wld want a disabled dog.. and they made sure we knew how difficult it would be and about the costs that could be incurred. We had to send video evidence of our home and garden before being invited along to meet Mabel.
Three days later we made an 8hr round trip to Wales to meet our girl. Whilst there we met a lot of the fantastic staff and saw many of the dogs waiting for their forever home.
The dogs were all kept in clean but simple accommodation and are clearly all loved by the hard working staff
Before taking our girl home we were talked through everything we needed to know and even gifted a pair of boots for her stumps
18 months later we saw MT Maya on their site and decided she wld make a wonderful addition to our home. Maya was with a lovely foster carer who phoned to question us before agreeing we could go with Maya to have a meet and greet. This followed another home check which we only passed after having to make a few improvements.
Although the checks MT make are sometimes rigid I have no doubt they are in place for all the right reasons. These dogs need and deserve to be homed with the right people. They have complex needs and require a lot of patience.
Following both adoption we have received fantastic support both from MT and the foster carer, even a behaviourist is on hand for guidance.
Overall a brilliant experience and you become part of a huge MT family of dog lovers
Avoid at all costs
Many Tears are the biggest rescue in Wales and I think that because of this, they have become very lax in their procedures and protocols. They skip home checks and place dogs with unsuitable families. I know this to be true because they placed a Great Dane, in my village, with a family without any checks. The house had a 3 foot fence (which couldn't have kept a Jack Russell in, let alone a Great Dane). The dog tried to attack the postman, who then refused to deliver directly to the house, showed aggressive behaviour to other dogs on walks and then went on to jump the garden fence and viciously maul and kill a Greyhound dog, who was just walking passed the house with her owner. Many Tears Rescue went on to treat the Greyhounds family appallingly. They lied continuously to the family stating that they weren't aware that the Great Dane had previously shown aggression to other dogs but on the dogs adoption page it stated exactly this and warned that he had to be in a muzzle when taken out in public. I feel that Many Tears may have become too big and money is being put before the welfare and care of the animals. They take monthly trips to Ireland to bring back puppies from the Irish puppy farms which bring in huge amounts of money for the Charity. A lot of these puppies are being put out for adoption without the necessary health checks and owners are being left devastated when their new puppies become very ill or even worse, die. I would advise anyone looking for a rescue animal to look elsewhere. Their Trust Pilot review score is appalling and it seems that quite a few "Excellent" reviews have all been put on all at the same time which seems a little suspicious to me.
AVOID. AVOID. AVOID
We felt supported and well-informed every step of the way.
For about a year, my husband and I had been thinking about adopting a dog to join our little family and be a friend and companion for our resident Miniature Schnauzer. When we applied to adopt our sweet Sophie (previously MT “Jingles”), we could not have asked for a better experience.
From the very first communication through to the practical aspects like home checks, Many Tears were professional, efficient, and - perhaps most importantly - warm and kind. We felt supported and well-informed every step of the way.
We were so excited to meet and greet Sophie and bring her home, and she has truly completed our little family. She’s been with us for seven weeks now, and we couldn’t have asked for a more delightful, loving dog. She brings joy, love, and light into our lives every single day.
Thank you, Many Tears, for the wonderful work you do and for helping Sophie find her way home to us. 🐾💗
RIP Ingrid
RIP Ingrid, the most beautiful and adored greyhound by so very many.
I have nothing but good things to say…
I have nothing but good things to say about Many Tears and the work they do. Some of the stories are heartbreaking and if Sylvia and her team didn’t take the time to rescue these poor animals, who knows what would become of them. I have had two dogs from the rescue with three years between. On every occasions, it was made clear to me that there needed to be a resident dog in the home and that the resident Dogs needed to meet the new dog. On the first occasion we travelled to Wales with my two dogs in the vehicle and had a meet and greet where beautiful (Kettle) Freddie came home with us. He was a terrified skinny little boy but has blossomed into the most beautiful dog I could wish for. Sadly after losing my two babies Freddie found himself alone and very scared again so I contacted Many tears and went through another Home check and search for a friend for Freddie. Along came Winnie, I collected her from her lovely foster mummy in Essex who I can only thank for the time and patience she took with myself and the number of dogs in her care. So many animals benefit from the hard work and heartbreak that the people at Many Tears put themselves through on a daily basis please think to rescue before buying a puppy as the process is so rewarding. Obviously getting the right match is important which requires some difficult questions and for the most part resident Dogs to guide them but if you have been through the process, you would absolutely know why…..
So I have 7 rescue dogs, 3 from Many tears, (ESSEX)
So I have 7 dogs, yes 7 rescues, 3 being from Many Tears. I am lucky that I have a resident dog/s, and have never been turned down for having so many rescues. Many Tears do like you to have a resident dog as this REALLY helps the adoptive dog to settle, which I totally agree with. I notice some comments people are not happy with, BUT it really is a positive when adopting ex-breeding dogs. Many Tears do have a section for dogs only. My last 2 are from the same fosterer, Billie, only 15 minutes away, who is an amazing, caring person. The process of adopting, no problems, home check, all good. I havnt been to the Many Tears rescue centre in wales, as this would be 2 far to travel, as I would need to take all my dogs with me. There are so many foster people around the uk, who go above & beyond to find the perfect match. I read Sylvia's Diary each week, which between the lines, there is love, care, and bundles of it.
Dolly…
We adopted our beautiful little Cavachon, formerly M.T. Trick and now our darling Dolly, through Many Tears Animal Sanctuary and the whole experience was absolutely wonderful from start to finish.
We worked with an incredible fosterer who truly went above and beyond. She carried out all of the proper checks, kept us fully informed, and made the entire process smooth, supportive, and reassuring. It was clear how much she cared about Dolly’s wellbeing and finding her the right home.
Dolly is very much a little project dog — timid, unsure, and clearly having had a tough start in life as a breeding dog. But we fully understood her brief and were matched perfectly. Having never adopted before we didn’t realise the importance of having our resident dog, Coco to help her learn gently how to be a dog, and every small step she takes feels like a huge victory. She’s already brought so much joy into our home.
We are incredibly grateful to Many Tears Animal Sanctuary for trusting us with this precious little soul. If anyone is considering adopting, especially a dog who needs patience and understanding, we cannot recommend them highly enough. They change lives — including ours.
A fantastic charity and I adopted a poodle cross nearly 2 years…
I adopted a poodle cross nearly 2 years ago from Many Tears. I found the process incredibly quick and efficient given this is a small charity run by volunteers. From my initial application to being approved a meet and greet and collecting our rescue was about a week.
I found the follow up support great my rescue had some quirky behaviours and I was able to get advice.
My dog was in foster care in Essex with her foster mum (Cherry) who was just great and I was able to discuss my dogs behaviour and progress with her. I still send photos and videos now! Overall my experience was great and I would highly recommend Many Tears and I will absolutely adopt from them again.
I am truly shocked by the negative reviews as that has certainly not been my experience.
Highly Recommended
I have been lucky enough to adopt two dogs from Many Tears over the years.
My most recent was in April 2025 an ex-breeding cockapoo who was very frightened of the world. The write ups are very honest and her amazing Foster Mum Cherry gave us all the time we needed at the meet and greet to ensure we were all comfortable. We then kept in touch daily over the coming weeks to ensure all was well.
I would highly recommend this rescue but you need to set your expectations around the type of home you have and the various dogs needs. It could take time for a match but it’s worth the wait and so rewarding.
Thank you for saving my girls.
I have been lucky enough to adopt 2 rescued ladies from ex breeders who came via Many tears. On both applications I found the process thorough and fair. Both foster mums were lovely, giving me time to introduce my resident dog to the new addition to our family. Both of my rescue ladies have settled and are happy. They both still jump at loud noises or cower if they are surrounded by too many people, but I assume their early life still causes them slight anxiety. Its about time abusive breeding of these poor animals is banned. I only have admiration for anyone that saves animals from distress. Thank you MTAR and the many wonderful foster carers (cherrie in Essex with Rusley, now Tilly and Silvia I think, in Buntingford who had Dixieland, now Dixie 7 years ago). Both girls are happy and living life by the sea.
Thank you Many Tears and your wonderful Fosterers
Two and a half years ago, my daughter sent me details of a totally shut down cocker spaniel called Windy, and so my many tears journey began. I applied and underwent a telephone interview and a thorough home check that involved making some alterations to my garden. That done we set off to collect my first rescue who was in foster in Wakefield. Three months later I saw another ex breeder on the website and I knew she would fit right in so I applied. Another thorough home check as this girl was considered to be a high flight risk and some fencing was raised for added security. This girl was also in foster, this time in Essex and her foster mum spoke with me on the phone a few times before we made the journey. This girl had been let down and so we had to get it right. We travelled to Essex, fell in love and came back with our beautiful girl. Adopting from foster through Many Tears means there’s always someone that knows your dog really well and can give you advice based on knowledge and experience. Two years on and I still share our joys with the wonderful foster mums. Thank you
Thank god for Many Tears Rescue
I have recently adopted a dog via a foster carer for Many Tears. I can’t tell you how pleased and impressed I am with their thorough and professional service. Of course there are many dogs to choose from but Many Tears questioned and qualified me to ensure I had the perfect match. I spoke to a home check professional and had to provide a video of my garden and property, evidencing it was indeed my home, to ensure the safety of the dog. My little girl is adorable, yes she needs some attention owing to her background. Based on my research prior to adopting, I’m not sure that some people realise that the dogs Many Tears rescue may have been subjected to years of psychological trauma, living in cages with minimum socialisation, just to be bred. If we can’t help these poor animals to have a loving, happy life - who will? Thank god for Many Tears rescue, they saved my dog who is progressing beautifully, and it’s wonderful to see positive change in her everyday.
Long live Many Tears
I adopted my first MT ex breeder in 2019, a scared shut down Bichon.I underwent rigorous checks on myself my home and current dogs . I was so impressed with the experience and how efficent and caring the rescue are I adopted a further 3 ex breeders over the next few years again having to complete the same checks to ensure my circumstances remained the same.I have visited the centre ,visited foster homes and each time was treated with the same kindness, respect ,politness and care that is given to everyone involved with MT including the dogs, cats horses, donkeys. I eventually decided to foster for this wonderful charity and have never looked back since. I have never been concerned about any of the protocol ,procedures or policys of MT. In fact as a fosterer I have 24/7 support from an excellent team at the centre who work extremely hard keep the centre running smoothly.I lost 2 of my adoptees this year through old age and know full well that had MT not rescued them they would have not had the lovely life they had with me. I am currently fostering 2 gorgeous dogs in my home along with my 3 resident dogs and have undergone an updated home check as a fosterer.inline with MT fostering policy . How anyone can not see the excellent care from everyone from volunteers ,staff and fosterers up to Sylvia and Bill themselves is beyond me . There will always be negative reviews ,thats part of life but they are not needed on this wonderful charity.
Long live Many Tears !!!
My two lovely Many Tears girls...
I have rehomed two rescue dogs from Many Tears in the last year.
From my initial application to rehoming, the process was very informative and always with the dogs best interests at heart.
Both my girls had come from a puppy farm in Ireland and both very shut down.
We had access to a behaviourist in dealing with any concerns or worries and both foster mums were fantastic ( Billie and Iona).
Reading some of these reviews is very upsetting and does not reflect the rescue or staff who work hard to rescue these poor animals from dreadful circumstances and ensuring they go to a loving home that is suited to both human and animal.
They deserve so much support, rather than negativity.
Would like to see a more thorough…
Would like to see a more thorough inspection
Many Tears is a shining example of an excellent animal rescue
I have read the reviews on this site and just cannot identify with the negative experiences
Over the last 3 years I have adopted 3 golden oldie ex breeding dogs I did not blindly go into this and prior drove from the North East of England to check them out in Wales. I met both staff and volunteers who were all dedicated to the welfare of all the animals in their care. I have had rescue dogs for close to 40 years and can honestly say I was very impressed by everything I saw. At a later date I met Sylvia who founded Many Tears and the welfare of animals is at the heart of everything they do. Those who foster do an incredible job introducing dogs to home life and continuing the work started at Many Tears to enable these special dogs to feel safe and loved.
I have had thorough home checks done prior to adoption and used the service of their dog behaviourist for one of mine
I really can’t thank Many Tears enough and all involved for the brilliant work they do.
Perhaps some people would be better putting their energy into pushing for legislation to ban puppy farms rather than creating spurious reviews
Fantastic place,the staff,looked after…
Fantastic place, the staff, looked after us on arrival and the dogs are so well looked after, it was a pleasure to see,as many of them are exbreeders.
I would recomend.
Highly recommended
Just adopted my second dog from Many tears, have been supporting recommending and using them for over 20 years , I have several friends that have also had fury babies from many tears , the chance to give ex puppy farm dogs the opertunity to live at least half there remaining life as a normal dog is extremely rewarding , this would never happen if many tears did not do what they do, i cannot recommend them enough and will pass on the same to anyone looking for a fury buddy if there own
Two Many Tears dogs now live with me.
I have adopted 2 of my 3 dogs from Many Tears, both ex-breeders. I was so impressed with their set up and processes after the first adoption, that I applied to become a fosterer and was successful. I now help these specials dogs find their forever homes and can't recommend Many Tears highly enough.
This charity are so caring
I have adopted from MT twice and fostered for them. This charity are so caring I find it unbelievable what they are being accused of. The foster families do a fantastic job of preparing dogs for their forever homes and all homes are carefully checked. They have extremely high standards in vetting homes which inevitably leaves some people disappointed but if you bear in mind the negative experiences many of these dogs have had it is imperative to ensure that the home they go to is just right. There is a wonderfully supportive community on facebook where people share their experiences. Overall I would recommend very highly
