🚨 Consumer Alert: Renault Zoe battery hire agreements are failing customers at end‑of‑life.
I’m currently stuck in a rolling battery hire contract on a Renault Zoe; the battery is at 84% health, but the charging block is effectively end‑of‑life. Despite this, Renault/RCI continue to charge monthly fees.
Renault promotes a “free take‑back recycling scheme”, yet customers are expected to pay for the return logistics — contradicting the advertised message.
When I asked Renault what happens at end‑of‑life, I was told: “Well, at least now we know electric vehicles only last ten years.”
This raises serious concerns about:
* EV longevity claims
* Transparency in battery‑hire agreements
* Consumer protection
* Renault’s end‑of‑life processes
Multiple Zoe vehicles are currently sitting at dealerships with the same issue, and Renault staff have stated they don’t know the correct procedure.
This is a significant consumer‑rights issue that needs industry attention.

Had a test drive of a 2026 clio espite alpine petrol with 20 miles on the clock there were several pre reg cars for sale so went for a test drive and noticed when you take your foot of the accellerator the gear stick jumps forwad a second later about 1/4 of an inch.Apparently this is normal for a manaul clio second hand or with no miles on it.To be honest the interior was the best thing about the car.I have had renaults of old renault 12 ts 20 tL and old clio mk 1 and mk2 clios and none did this.Very disapointing given todays technology that this happens in a modern car.No other manual car i have driven does this.It gives the feeling the car has jumped out of gear also they have electronic handbrake systems on the clio and when i activated it for handbrake on i could hear the motors activating. On the vw caddy van i had as a company van i never heard anything when activating the electronic handbrake so poor build quality it seems. So won,t be buying a clio and customer service are hard to get hold of and you get no handbooks with the car so when buying a second hand one if the car was serviced at another dealer by the previous owner your local renault dealer doesnt have access to it if say it was arnold clark and your local dealership was vertru renault they have no access to arnold clarks database.I prefer a physical service book.I might add my friend has an arkana and it developed a problem with the heater it would only blow cold air and her car was of the road for several weeks waiting on a part to come from germany.Pretty poor show from a brand i used to love but not now sadly

Tried to contact a dealership with an issue with a new car. Had no luck with them so went straight to Renault. Their customer service representative took ages to reply to emails and just closed the case even though I have been left dissatisfied. I will never buy from Renault again. The company as a whole does not seem to care about their customers or be able to assist in helping deal with their own dealership.

Shocking Service from this Dealer. 6 Days out of Warranty and booked in 2 weeks before it’s First Mot due Date but could not fit it in before. Told me the afternoon before that the centre could not carry out the mot as the centre was down. They Booked it with a local independent Centre. Renault Carried out the service and Brakes and charged me for the Ball Joints Parts that were 6 Days out of warranty by 80%. Disgraceful service on the Top of the range Trafic. I recommend to go elsewhere for a Van.

From Excitement to Disappointment – My Renault Ownership Experience
Just over a year ago I purchased a 73-plate Renault Arkana from Sutton Park Renault, Perry Barr. It was presented as a showroom/management vehicle, and I was genuinely excited to own it. The sales experience was excellent, and I believed I was buying into a brand renowned for quality and customer care.
Unfortunately, that excitement quickly turned into one of the most frustrating vehicle ownership experiences I’ve ever had.
Because I bought the car in spring, I had no reason to use the heating. When winter arrived, I discovered the heating didn’t work at all. What followed was months of repeated visits to the dealership, failed repair attempts, promises of call-backs that never came, and having to chase for updates myself. Communication was poor throughout.
The situation became even more disappointing over Christmas. My vehicle remained off the road, and my family had to change our Christmas travel plans. My children were left disappointed because we couldn’t use our own car, and we had to make do with a much smaller courtesy vehicle.
Ironically, after all the discussions about replacing the entire heating system, the problem was eventually resolved in January by carrying out an extended purge procedure—the very process that perhaps should have been fully exhausted from the outset.
Just when I thought things were finally behind me, another issue arose.
The “A” from the rear ARKANA badge has now fallen off. On closer inspection, I’ve discovered the rear of the vehicle appears to have undergone previous accident repairs before I bought it. I was never informed of any rear-end damage during the purchase.
Looking more carefully, I’ve noticed the rear paint colour doesn’t perfectly match, the finish isn’t of the standard I would expect, and the reversing camera image quality is noticeably poorer than other Arkanas I’ve compared it with. These issues have left me questioning the quality of the repair work carried out before the vehicle was sold to me.
To add insult to injury, I’ve now been told I will have to pay for a replacement badge myself, despite the badge appearing to have failed as part of that previous repair.
This isn’t simply about a missing letter on the back of a car. It’s about trust.
I purchased what I believed was a quality Renault with complete confidence. Instead, I’ve experienced repeated mechanical issues, poor aftercare, inadequate communication, and I’m now questioning whether I was given the full history of the vehicle I purchased.
I’m sharing my experience in the hope that Renault UK will take notice, review my case in its entirety, and contact me directly to help restore the confidence I once had in the Renault brand. I still hope Renault will demonstrate that customer satisfaction matters and that they stand behind both the vehicles they sell and the customers who place their trust in them.

I've reviewed these comments which were made at the height of my frustration, and through realising the main criticisms are not directly the responsibility of Renault UK.
I've loved my Renault for the last four years, but won't be buying another. Bizarrely, I have visited 2 Renault dealerships at different ends of the country, and on neither occasion would a salesman even talk to me. It's been bizarre, and I'm unwilling to commit £30k+ to organisations that have zero interest in me
It's taken time to realise that I've got to change manufacturer, but that starts today . Renault dealerships, you can do so much better - and indeed have done in the past.

Had numerous faults and issues with our Renault car now that's still under warranty. It'll be our first and last Renault. Customer support is terrible, dealership network is terrible and repair / turn around time for parts is pathetic.

I am extremely disappointed with Renault’s handling of what should have been a straightforward warranty and roadside assistance case.
I own a nearly new Renault Scenic E-Tech (still under full manufacturer’s warranty). While travelling in Spain, my vehicle became immobilised at a public charging station when the charging cable became stuck, making the car unusable.
What followed was a complete breakdown of Renault’s support system.
I contacted Renault UK, Renault Spain, and their assistance provider (Opteven) multiple times. Shockingly:
Renault Spain refused to assist because the vehicle is UK registered
Renault UK failed to arrange any recovery or provide a solution
The assistance provider claimed they could not act due to contractual issues
No recovery service was organised
No workshop was instructed to help
As a result, I was left stranded abroad with a vehicle under warranty, without any assistance.
This situation raises serious concerns about Renault’s ability to honour its European warranty and roadside assistance commitments. There appears to be no coordination between their national entities, leaving the customer completely unprotected.
This is not just poor customer service — it is a systemic failure.
I expected far more from a global manufacturer like Renault.

New Renault 5 e now in sixth month off the road since a no fault and not v serious accident on New Years Eve 2025. Insurance repairers unable to offer a date for return as Renault still can’t offer a date for provision of 3 small parts. The car was driveable after collision but has since been out of action with no date of return. Renault could care less. Lovely car but not much good if they can’t offer parts for 6 months! No help from Renault
And if you read their stock reply to this you’ll understand all you need to know. Look elsewhere where the car company might care

⚠️ Warning to potential buyers – please read ⚠️
Do not trust this company, even if it appears to be an “established business.”
I purchased a car from Renault pre ton for £12,000, and within just one month, it developed multiple serious issues. The head gasket failed and had to be replaced, and I had to cover the cost of courtesy cars myself. Shortly after, the engine coolant continued leaking, requiring further repairs—again at my own expense for transport and temporary vehicles.
The most alarming incident happened when the vacuum pump failed while I was driving on the M6. This caused the brakes to stop working properly and was a near miss that could have ended very badly.
After further inspection, I was told the car now requires a completely new engine—costing an additional £12,000. The company has refused to contribute toward this.
To spend your savings on a car that was supposedly “serviced” and “checked,” only for it to become unusable after a month and sit in a garage for over a year, is completely unacceptable.
The company have since been taken over and refused to take over this issue. I also have a close family member who has had repeated issues with this company for years and they refuse to take any ownership over any problems.
I strongly advise others: DO NOT purchase a car from this company.

Renault Astrale(73 plate) still under warranty, went into garage and has been there for over 9 months, leasing company autoserve, Renault and Stoneacres garage in Stafford all not taking ownership and responsibility to resolve. No one really bothered to take my complaints and concerns seriously at all - no where to turn for solution or resolution meanwhile leasing company still charging for vehicle - how does that work - Disgracefull
Sending customer services number is of no use, as phone calls are not acted upon and emails received show no actions are taken. Action is needed by Renault, they should be ashamed given the documented facts.

I bought my car from Renault Romford, near Gallows Corner, 10 years ago and have a service/MOT agreement with them. The last couple of times my car has been with them they have scaremongered and hard sold repairs to my car. The charges have been extortionate - for example I have since discovered one job they charged me just under £200 for cost around £50 at other garages - that's just one example, they have overcharged for other repairs too. They also have done work and then called me to ask me for more money and more money for jobs I have since discovered were completely unnecessary. I've wasted hundreds of pounds with them. They gave me the charges upfront but made me feel pressured to get them done. I don't have a leg to stand on legally, but I found them morally reprehensible. I would avoid getting any repairs done there at all - save yourself money and go anywhere else, Kwikfit, an independent garage, anywhere if you want to avoid feeling like you've been shafted.

In 2023 I bought a BRAND NEW Renault Cleo e-Tech in the 2 -1/2 years that followed it had an electrical motor failure ( took a month to repair) then a fuel pump fault which identified as a electrical motor failure. The 1st failure took Bolton Renault 3 days to arrange a curtesy car, the 2nd failure, the R.A.C provided me with a car for 4 days over the Easter period. During the Easter period I was told by Bolton Renault they couldn't book my car in until the 8th may due to having no room at Bolton, I could however ring round other dealerships to see if they could repair this any sooner as it's under warranty. Oldham Chadderton agreed for the 20th April then subsequently cancelled as my service plan was with Bolton ( to you. To me , to you.....) Meanwhile I was having a nervous breakdown as a result of trying to arrange a curtasy car via Renault Customer Care, 3 assistants and 4 Case managers, 2 DIFFERENT case numbers and multiple phone calls in a 2 week period, this was achieved. In all my years ( I'm 60 years old ) I can honestly say I cannot remember being as stressed as what I was from the Easter Friday until the my car was repaired 30th April. The R.A.C where excellent, F.A.M Engineering ( recovery services) where Excellent, Renault Bolton, Renault Customer Care, Renault in General have left me with a very sour taste. Buying a Renault is like playing the lottery. maybe you'll get lucky, but can you afford to risk it ?? I've since sold my car. I'll not buy Renault again

New
When I first got my Clio the rear lights kept failing & it took 3 trips to a Renault garage to get it sorted (even tho I explained what was wrong they insisted on doing a full diagnostic check costing over £100 each time only for them to tell me it was what I thought), plus it was a real headache when lightbulbs needed changing as they’d crammed the engine in such a small space - even the Halfords guys hated having to change the bulbs. Then the windscreen wipers stopped working, then the driver window stopped working, then the dashboard started playing up, then the window stopped working again, all kinds of weird lights appearing that meant nothing & disappeared as quickly as they arrived, my clock’s stopped working, as has the cruise control & limiter, etc, etc. Basically the electrics are rubbish. I’m amazed the car’s still running tbh. Worst car I’ve ever owned but I’m stuck with it until I can afford something else. I’m never buying a Renault again!

I raised a warranty issue with Renault Customer Service UK when I didn't get a satisfactory response from the main dealer in Cambridge.
I was initially happy with the assurance given by the Customer Service Manager. He said all the right things and seemed committed to help me resolve the issues.
All downhill from there. 3 months later, literally nothing has progressed and I have given up. Really poor case management from his team.
Repeat assurances that things would be escalated. Nothing happened to date.
Poor is being generous! 1 star is flattery!
If anyone at Renault wants to look though all the emails and listen to the calls, this would make an excellent case study on how to not deal with 'valued customers!'

Never EVER buy a Renault.
On the 9th of December 2025 I started my lease on a brand new 75 plate Renault Symbioz. Within 3 days, and before the car had even completed 500 miles, it started having having an extremely dangerous fault where it cuts out unexpectedly while driving, totally cutting power to the engine and leaving the vehicle and driver coasting without any control over the vehicle having to wait for it to come to a complete stop before the engine can be restarted. When the fault occurs all of the warning lights in the dash come on at once and the car makes a warning beeping sound.
Between the 12th of December 2025 and the 18th of March 2026 I was victim of this fault over 30 times, including whole motorway driving, leaving me in extremely dangerous situations.
I took the car into an official Renault dealer on the 9th of March 2026 for repair. The dealership failed to diagnose or repair the fault. They assessed that the fault must be caused by software and therefore they uninstalled all the software, reinstalled and updated it by way of repair but warned that if the fault happened again the car would need to go straight back into the garage.
Of course the fault happened again within a matter of days. I therefore phoned Renault who arranged to have an RAC ‘Renault Assist’ roadside technician sent out to try and repair the vehicle. He failed to do so but he was successful in diagnosing that the car had multiple faults which he documented on a report and advised that the car must go into a main dealership immediately.
I therefore took the car into Arnold Clark Renault Hillington on the 21st of March 2026 and have been without the vehicle I am paying monthly for ever since.
At some stage while the car has been in Arnold Clark Hillington, all the faults that the RAC technician diagnose have been cleared from the car’s log/system. Arnold Clark Hillington claim to be totally unable to diagnose or replicate the fault and are insisting I pay them £162 for their ‘diagnostic tests’ and come to collect the dangerous vehicle.
As Arnold Clark Hillington were the second dealer to have failed to repair the vehicle, I went through multiple rounds of requesting Renault or Mobilize (the official Renault lease provider in the UK) replace the vehicle with one that is safe and fit for purpose, as is my right under the Consumer Rights Act 2015. Renault and Mobilize refused on all occasions.
This left me with no option but to Reject the vehicle so as to get out of the 2 year lease agreement so I can arrange myself a safe and roadworthy vehicle instead. Renault and Mobilize refused my rejection of the vehicle, did regarding the independent RAC report diagnosing the faults and claiming the failure of the dealership to replicate the fault to be evidence the vehicle is not faulty and is therefore safe to drive.
I have had no option but to escalate my case to the financial Ombudsman in order to not have to continue using this dangerous and unroadworthy vehicle for the next 20 months until the end of my lease contract as I consider it a risk to myself and other road users.
Please don’t allow yourself to get into the same situation as me.
Having a BEng in Mechanical Engineering myself, I totally understand that cars are very complex machines and eventually things are bound to go wrong with them and need repaired. That’s okay. What’s not okay is the manufacturer not taking any responsibility for repairing or replacing faulty brand new vehicles that they’re putting out into the world without any regard for their drivers (customers) safety, even when reports detailing faults with their vehicles are made available to them. Safety of road users should always be more important than maximising company profits.

At Evans Halshaw Manchester Old Trafford.
I am extremely disappointed with the level of service I received at Evans Halshaw in Manchester.
As a long-standing customer of Renault and Dacia, I have previously used their dedicated service centre in Swansea, where the experience was significantly better. This recent experience felt more like dealing with a third-party garage rather than an authorised service provider.
I had a full service and MOT booked for 8:00 AM on 16th April 2026. However, I was kept waiting at the centre until approximately 4:30 PM due to unavailable brake pads and discs. Throughout this time, there was a lack of clear communication regarding delays or expected completion time. Spending an entire day waiting without proper updates is unacceptable.
After finally receiving the vehicle, I discovered that the service/maintenance warning was still active, and the Dacia app continued to show the vehicle as overdue for service. This raises concerns about whether the service was properly completed.
I contacted the service department and was asked to return at 8:30 AM on 18th April. Upon arrival, I was informed that the issue could not be resolved because no Renault/Dacia technician was available. This is particularly frustrating, as I was specifically asked to come in. This issue should have been resolved on the original service day.
I have now been asked to return again on Monday, which means additional fuel costs and further loss of my time, despite having already paid for the service and holding a service plan with you.
Overall, this experience has been highly inconvenient and disappointing. I strongly urge Renault/Dacia to consider establishing a dedicated service and MOT facility in Manchester, similar to the one in Swansea, to ensure customers receive the standard of service expected from the brand.
At present, I regret purchasing a service plan due to this experience, and I am not satisfied with the level of customer service provided.
