Frustrating Aftersales Experience

My Renault Megane E-Tech has a 5 year extended warranty.
On the 15th December 2025 my car had a water ingress fault repaired under the warranty. The repair (sealing the inner wheel arch) didn't fix the fault so the car was again inspected on the 5th January.
This inspection revealed that the ingress was still there but the next known fix was to remove the windscreen.
The water ingress fault is known by Renault UK by the batch of chassis numbers showing when they were made, and the fault is also on their systems which also detail the fixes that can be done.
I was advised that I booked my car in with a different garage with more experience to resolve this fault.
After another inspection of this known fault on the 30th January, I was informed that it was not covered by the warranty. I do not understand how the water ingress fault was fixed under warranty in December, but in January the warranty does not cover the same fault?
I have complained to the garage asking where in the warranty does it state that work to remedy this particular known fault is excluded?
I know have to wait up to 8 weeks for a full and final response.
This is very frustrating and not what you would expect from Renault.

Utter joke of a manufacturer!

I’ve been driving for over 40 years and work in a senior customer‑management role dealing with organisations worldwide. I’ve seen every level of service imaginable — yet Renault UK has delivered the single worst customer experience I have ever encountered.

The dedicated call line was already shockingly poor. Their team couldn’t answer even the simplest warranty questions, instead offering evasive, patronising, politician‑style replies that avoided every point. Not one clear or competent answer.

But the social media team somehow managed to be even worse.

Their responses were rude, dismissive, and astonishingly arrogant. Rather than addressing the question, they replied with condescending comments that implied I was the problem — simply because they couldn’t understand or answer the most basic of queries. It’s a masterclass in how to alienate customers and destroy trust.

Across every channel, Renault UK shows the same pattern:

• No knowledge
• No accountability
• No willingness to help
• And a staggering level of arrogance for a team that can’t answer straightforward questions

From a professional standpoint, this is not just poor service — it’s a complete operational failure.

I strongly advise avoiding Renault entirely. If this is how they handle simple warranty enquiries, I dread to imagine how they would behave when a serious issue arises. There are many manufacturers who value their customers. Renault, based on my experience, is not one of them.

I expect nothing from this review, merely hope to warn others of their utter incompetence as a company

Edit: Thank you for your response, though it once again only demonstrated your inability to accept any fault in your approach. You state they replied with a polite and accurate response, you fail to address their continued failure to answer the simple question asked of them - despite several attempts! The reply I received was both patronising and dismissive, and I am fully prepared to provide evidence of this in any legal setting if required. If Trustpilot permitted image uploads, I would have included screenshots without hesitation.

My wife also spoke with a member of your team prior to my enquiry and encountered the same lack of product knowledge, evasiveness, and poor customer service. Although I maintain they were NOT rude to my wife! (Some of us tell the truth, a lesson Renault would do well to learn from). Two separate interactions, both equally inadequate, combined with your refusal to acknowledge any inefficiencies, only reinforce the concerns highlighted in my review.

I stand by every word of my honest feedback. The fact that you requested “further information” within two minutes of this review going live - clearly an attempt to protect your already concerning 1.9 rating, speaks volumes.

I have no expectation that you will accept any wrongdoing, and frankly, that is your prerogative. However, I will continue to advise anyone considering a Renault to think very carefully before proceeding. It is unfortunate, because the car itself is excellent; the aftercare, however, is wholly unprofessional and embarrassing from the most basic of levels.

Thank you for your updated review. We have checked with the social media team and you were provided with a polite and accurate response. You were advised that any faults that you have with your car or your key fob would need to be assessed by a Renault dealer. This includes any issues directly concerning the key fob and/or any other faults which may or may not relate to the key fob working. In order to do this, you would need to book your car in with the dealer and arrange a diagnostic. Any manufacturing defects would then be confirmed by the dealer. This is as per your warranty T&C's and you were provided with a link to your warranty documents so that you were aware of how the process works. We hope this has provided clarity. Renault UK

Renault Austral -

Well for the first time I am disgusted and shocked at the way I have been treated by Renault. My last few cars over the past few years have been ok, with some faults and breakdowns.. All of which have been fixed in and out of warranty as I have been a good client of my dealer ship and Renault for a long time. (25 years +)

My brand new Austral (Dec 2024), broke down 1 month after buying. Engine failure and shut down on a motorway. RAC took it to my local branch, after several calls, and they went out there way to fix it as always. Apparently the system and car needed tweaked and an update package sent from France was uploaded, no problem until currently - December 2025 .

Now 1 year after previous engine failure and shut down, it happened again, this time due to a coolant pipe ruptured/burst. RAC couldn't take it to my dealership as he had been advised the whole company aren't taking cars due to Xmas etc. So it was sent to a repair hub in Edinburgh. Once there, despite several messages no updates or information. However, today I found out the coolant pipes were fixed under warranty on 12/12/25. I was informed I now have turbo issues, needs replaced, but the garage has had the car for over 5/6weeks. I was then told it is not covered under warranty as I serviced the car at 20,000 miles not 18,000. Reason for delay no courtesy car available or space to get my car in until then. Advised by my branch as always, this is not an issue.

However I have been told this is and issue for the first time and nul in voids my warranty, not just for this issue but also future issues as long as I have the car... No warranty work will be carried out free. All because I am 1000 miles over the warranty limit. Surely a turbo should last more than 18000-20000 miles?? Phoned Renault uk several times and been told that it is what it is as I am over my miles, not covered. Called my dealership they were stunned as I was, that this repair isn't covered but the pipes were. How can they cherry pick, it is either all covered or all not!!! Also now found out I am liable for the cost of the courtesy car I have had for over 6 weeks.. I will ensure I never buy Renault again and will ensure I make as many people aware of this problem.

I have tried to speak to a manager a service manage and also warranty manager and everyone been put back to customer service who say it's not covered. I now also have been told to take the courtesy car back. Asked how am I supposed to work as I visit several houses, every day. I was told I have to make my own arrangements, and I am responsible for this financially too.. I feel completely let down and shafted as a loyal customer...

Update - Renault responded with according to your warranty the car has to follow the guidlines, yes I agree. However my response is if the garages are soo busy they cannot keep.up with demand and my branch and subsequent surrounding branches, were soo busy the first time I could get my car in was 5 weeks after I called.. I do 500-700 miles per week. I did ask if this was ok and they advised yes as the car was booked in for the service. Nobody advised me otherwise so going over the 1000miles grace was inevitable. More mechanics more space would have ensured my car was possibly done within 2/3days, but I don't know any garage that can operate that quick.

Despite this my question is how can the coolant pipes be repaired and fixed within hours of recieving the car, UNDER WARRANTY, but 6 weeks later while the car is still.in the rage apparently being looked at suddenly have a turbo issue not covered under warranty... The warranty is either valid or not. You can't cherry pick what is done and not.. something isn't right there. Considering the car was also 1 year old and only 1000 miles over the warranty how do the turbo malfunction or blow? The car is obviously unfit for purpose and in future I would suggest anyone buying this car should have their turbo replacement dunder warranty every 18,000 miles as it won't last 20,000.. very poor response Renault...

New car damaged on delivery

I took delivery of my new car on 23-Sept-2025, but it had bodywork damage. After a poor response from the dealership (Renault Chesterfield), I contacted the manufacturer Renault UK. After many phone calls and emails, Renauly UK convinced me to take the car to a repairer, but I'd have to take it to them myself which was a 2 hour round trip. I took that round trip 3 times so a total of 6 hours. The car was finally repaired on 14-January-2026, almost 4 months after taking delivery of the car. Very disappointed with the after care service received from firstly the dealership and now Renault UK. They've offered me a paltry £50 compensation for all the inconvenience that this issue has caused me, which includes 10 hours of my time.

NEVER BUY RENAULT

Promise me you will never buy a car from Renault. Their customer service/complaints department do not care and are happy for you to be charged £133 a day and tell you repeated lies on the phone. Don't get Vehicle New or Used from this Dealer

I booked my car in for a health check at Renault Cardiff, expecting professional service and safety advice from a main dealer. Shockingly, I was NOT told about a nail in my tyre during the visit. Instead, I received an email the following day with a photo of the nail and a price for a new tyre at the bottom.
This means I drove for over 24 hours with a nail in my tyre, risking a blowout and serious accident. For a main dealer, this is completely unacceptable. Safety should be the top priority, and failing to inform a customer immediately about a dangerous fault is negligent and irresponsible.
If you value clear communication and basic safety standards, think twice before trusting Renault Cardiff.

Avoid Renault

I own a 2021 electric Renault, and Evans Halshaw is the only Renault garage in our city. Every time the weather turns cold (around -1°C to -2°C), the car battery stops charging. Evans Halshaw then keeps my car for five to six weeks to fix the issue. The next time the weather turns cold, the same error appears again. Usually, my car ends up in their garage for one or two months every year and paying about £150 for each diagnosing. It is really frustrating that they are not able to fix this minor issue properly. Absolutely avoid Renault, the worst customer and maintenance service I have ever experienced.

Customer Services Experience & WLTP / Real World

Let us be very clear, this is mainly a review of my Customer Service experience with Renault, not the vehicle.

However, there is important information about the difference between WLTP and real-world driving.

I had one of the very first R5 in the UK, which I ordered before I saw the vehicle. I have the 150 Bhp Iconic 5 in Yellow / Black Roof (Vehicle ordered: Renault 5 E-Tech Hatch 110kW Iconic Five 52kWh Comfort Range Auto)

According to Renault:

• 52kWh Battery (Comfort Range): Delivers approximately 249-250 miles (WLTP), suitable for more varied trips, including motorway driving. Cost £30,500.

Rangers of approximately 190 miles (40kWh battery) for urban use and around 250 miles (52kWh battery) for longer journeys.

Real World:

9th January 2026 100% = 182 miles
7th January 2026 100% = 182 miles
4th January 2026 100% = 157 miles
3rd January 2026 100% = 157 miles
2nd January 2026 100% = 165 miles
31st December 2025 100% = 176 miles
29th December 2025 100% = 214 miles
28th December 2025 100% = 170 miles
21st December 2025 100% = 181 miles
19th December 2025 100% = 190 miles

*Lowest I've ever seen is 141 miles on a 100% charge.

Why am I reviewing the customer experience?

Mainly because of the frustration of dealing with Renault UK customer service. Not helpful or efficient. It's been approximately 7 days since the last email, and no one has called to explain. The answer is that the range is not guaranteed.

Fortunately, my place of work is 53 miles each way, and my wife's is 37, so it's usable daily.

The car itself is fantastic, we love it.

Our other vehicle is a 23 plate VW Tiguan ICE, which goes off lease in 4 months.

We were considering a bigger electric Renault to replace it, as we have upgraded our consumer unit in the garage and have installed a 3-phase 22 kWh car charger on the wall.

Given Renault UK's slow and unhelpful response, there is no chance of us committing to keeping the R5 beyond its current lease or considering an additional vehicle from them.

Let me say something POSITIVE about Renault

I have seen a number of very negative reviews on Trust Pilot relating to various issues encountered with Renault cars. I have been the owner of a new Megane E-tech for 2 months, and so far I have no grounds for a complaint. I will be in a better position to comment on reliability once the car has covered a greater mileage (currently 650 miles).
My intention in writing is simply to refute some of the unjustified negative comments made by motoring journalists in their reviews of the vehicle. Let me mention some of the features that prospective purchasers may want reassurance on.
The car rides very well and is particularly quiet, even on 20-inch tyres. The steering wheel has been criticised for not being circular. This is not an issue. My previous car had a circular wheel, and I thought I might have difficulty adjusting to the new shape, but the swap has been very easy, and now I am not even aware of the change in shape. There was criticism of the electronic rear view mirror, with distorted perspective being the main issue. I have been using the electronic mirror right from the start, and I can honestly say that it is a huge improvement over the conventional mirror. Hats off to whoever designed this. No need to be concerned about the restricted view out of the rear window! The foot brake was criticised as being spongy, with a numb feel and dead travel at the top. This criticism is not justified. I find the brake excellent and have been using this mode of stopping in preference to regenerative braking. My back seat passengers never complain of lacking room for their knees or their feet. The motoring journalists who have criticised lack of space in the rear must be very big lads! The boot is enormous and an extremely useful feature, even though there is a high loading lip. I see no reason whatever to criticise the button on the lid for opening the boot. This works very well and rarely have I have dirtied my hands when using it. Two features that really stand out are the 360-degree camera, which enables one to position the car accurately in car parks; and the adaptive cruise/stop-go control, which proves such a boon in slow moving traffic. It is very easy to operate.
I could go on, but I just want the public to know that the Renault Megane E-tech is a cracking car and needs to be given a much higher status.
I would award the Renault dealership where I purchased my car a very high rating. Customer relations were first class and I was able to achieve a very substantial discount. Delivery of the car took 5 months.

Renault Austral - Buyers Beware Renault cant fix

see update 21 Jan at end
I should have read the thousands of reviews about the Renault Austral, as I am suffering with every known recorded fault and my dealer just says “No fault found”.
Now my Austral like many others is stuck attempting to do an update. Vehicle immobilised, car wont engage gear have to turn off and wait 20 minutes outside vehicle with it locked.
Why wont Renault resolve these problems?

I contacted Renault as per response, only to be on hold due to “our consultants are busy, please hold”, time passes.
My call is answered and a very polite individual manages my call very professionally. After regaling my tale of woe and the lack of support from my local dealer. The consultant contacts the dealer organising a loan car and booking the vehicle in for a detailed review, also confirming that if not fixed will be rejected as it doesn’t work as advertised. Specifically you can’t engage D OR R, AND locks you out is AI taking over?
Vehicle booked in for 21 Jan 26. Will update after vehicle has been returned.
Update vehicle taken to Renault dealership, contrary to email from Renault no hire car ordered. Dealership states doesn’t have necessary equipment to align front sensor. No fault found with not being able to engage gear. Have contacted RAC as vehicle unsafe

Unsafe, Unreliable and Unresolved

This has been one of the most stressful experiences I’ve had as a car owner. Despite repeated repairs and ongoing involvement from Renault UK, my vehicle remains faulty and unreliable.
The car has suffered multiple serious issues including engine failure, heater matrix failure (leaving us without heating for over four months during winter), electrical and warning light faults, alarm design defects, recalls, and tyre pressure sensor failure. Warning lights and system faults continue to appear, with systems shutting down while driving.
As a parent of a baby and young child, safety and reliability are essential. Instead, this vehicle has caused ongoing stress, anxiety, and disruption to my family.
Renault have been unable to resolve these issues within a reasonable time and have requested further paid diagnostics despite the car being defective for most of my ownership. I am now pursuing my legal right to reject the vehicle and have escalated the matter to the finance provider and The Motor Ombudsman.
Renault’s promise of quality and reliability has not matched my experience. I would not recommend based on reliability or aftersales support.

Beware of Renault Service Plans and hidden extras above 30k miles

After asking Renault customer services why - with Evans Halshaw Renault Durham - they bring you in for a service at 30,000 miles.
It is totally unnecessary and just done for the sake of it.
If the warranty agreement for service is for every year or 18000 miles - why do it?
Their response was
‘As advised, our products vary in duration and cover all of our models. They are not sold to correspond with your car's service schedule. They are based on a given mileage and age limit. It is up to you as the customer to decide which is the most appropriate for you’
Any UK Renault customer who buys a service plan - be careful.
All Renault service plans are for 30k if I am correct.
If you go over your 10k miles a year if you purchase it for 3 years or 30k mileage total - be prepared for lots of added extras. A 36k service can cost about £600 for a petrol Renault Captur. This is the last one I will need to do on a 3 year warranty but do 18000 miles a year annually. My job changed so more mileage.
Your service plan and your finance agreement unless 2 or 3 years / 30k miles will not tally up.
Renault do not allow renewals of service plans beyond 30k miles. They use EMac which can be more expensive. It is like a monthly savings pot at best.
I will now allow the public to decide.
I will take my case up with the motor ombudsman and see if I have more luck. Probably not. I managed to negotiate and have to find an additional £400 for the 36k service on top of the £216 3 year service plan credit agreement already paid. Very upsetting and annoying. As most customers have discovered - Renault Customer Services are extremely unhelpful. Have they read the misleading correspondence sent to them from the business manager who sold me the policy which states ‘at 36000 miles - no oil or filter change is needed’. Completely incorrect mis-sold information.
The service plans purposefully fall short of the major 36k service.
This is where the garages make the most money. Shop around for a good deal and please make sure the garage follows the warranty. My next service after having the car for 2.5 years will be service 5 on the service plan. This is usually after 5 years. All very misleading.
I agree with the review of Nicholas on December 5th.
Renault customer services are useless. They repeatedly say they do not have a record of what was told to me by a salesman - yet I forwarded the customer services team exact emails from the person who sold me the car at the main dealer. You may have a case handler but most emails will be handled by somebody unfamiliar to your case who will simply fob you off. Usually clueless.
Certainly unsympathetic to your plight.
A complaint will now to go the head office of the dealership and the motor ombudsman. I refuse to give up on this one. I have nothing to lose.
An utter disgrace! Shocking!
They’ve got worse over time too.

Look at the review below
Please contact Renault Customer Services again etc.
It’s about the same issue as previously. I rest my case. There are hundreds of reviews on here accurately describing Renault Customer Service as completely useless. That’s being generous.
Why would I raise another case with the Renault Customer Services team. That would just confuse them even more. They cannot handle one case, never mind two.

Awful customer experience,

I Found a car online at the Renault Enfield showroom their website calculated a guaranteed price for my car in part exchange, I secured the Renault with a £99 refundable deposit. The day before collection and part exchange I received a phone call from the showroom to advise the price now offered for my car was reduced by £2k they had not seen my car at this point. I withdrew the transaction and requested a refund of the £99 deposit, 4 weeks, several contacts by phone and email, I have not received the refund I have spoken to the management at the branch today with no joy I might as well talk to a brick wall

Renault no longer making the car we wanted

You couldn’t make this up.

We ordered a Renault 5 EV with a 40kwh battery about 8 weeks ago. We were given a 8-12 week delivery window.

We got a call from the dealership today and we thought it was to let us know the car had arrived. However, it was to let us know Renault were no longer making the car we had ordered and as an alternative were offering a car with a bigger battery.

To make matters even worse we would have to wait another 8–12 weeks for the delivery of a new car!

The original PCP had a grant of £1500 and an interest rate of 0%. The alternative PCP we were offered has an interest rate of 7.9%, although the car qualifies for a bigger grant of over £3,000.

On the face of it, the car works out at a few pounds cheaper than the PCP price originally quoted but Renault will be making more money from the deal by charging 7.9% interest.

Renault should be ashamed of themselves, treating customers who have ordered a particular car in good faith and trusting Renault to deliver the car as ordered.

The new car was a Christmas present for my wife, to say she is disappointed is an understatement!

I guess Renault would argue this is a win-win, customers pay less and Renault make more money. Instead Renault have lost a customer, we simply don’t trust them anymore.

The dealer relied on a contract fine print clause to avoid being sued for “breach of contract”. When Renault have your money they can do pretty much what they want, including failure to deliver the car you have ordered in good faith.

A Renault rip-off disguised as a better deal for the customer.

Update: See the Renault reply. I rest my case. Renault just don’t care about upsetting customers. If they treat customers this way when you are buying something that costs over £25,000 what are they like if something goes wrong with your car?

This review covers the sale of a new Renault Clio Alpine Esprit

This review covers the sale of a new Renault Clio Alpine Esprit bought from Renault Croydon at Coulsdon, Surrey about 3 weeks ago. This is the 6th Clio I have owned, 5 of which have been purchased from this Renault dealership and all have performed very well and the servicing of them has never been a problem. As with previous purchases the sale of this recent car went smoothly, thanks in the main to a very efficient, courteous and very pleasant new car sales executive - Ameel - who now knows me and in whom I have complete faith. I also appreciate the fact he did not apply any undue pressure on me to purchase the car and took the trouble to follow up on whether we are happy with it and how the car is performing. If this car performs as well as the others I will certainly be going back again to him for my next car.

Zero customer service

Zero customer service. Having complains numerous occasions to Renault Customer Service Team, it is clear this is a made up name for a department of mis-fits who are unable to respond or provide a service.
I would suggest to anyone wanting to buy a Renault, is not look at the fancy car, but check the review on how they behave to you after the car has been handed over.
They are simply shocking. Dont buy Renault is the message here.

Cars first service

Cars first service, fully kept up to date as to what was happening and its collection time, even though we turned up an hour early, car was washed and cleaned.
Staff all very knowledgeable and approachable.
Thank you Ben Davies and Chris (parts) as initial contact

Just a heads up to anyone considering a Renault Master for their business.
I’m a small business owner and my 72-plate Master has now been with Renault since 28th October due to a safety-critical SRS/airbag/seatbelt fault that still hasn’t been resolved.

The airbag module has been replaced twice, yet the seatbelt sensor system still can’t be coded correctly, and I keep being told the dealer is “waiting for engineers in France” with no clear timescale or solution.

This isn’t the first issue either — earlier this year the alarm was triggering in the middle of the night, and after several failed repair attempts, Renault had to disable the alarm completely in February.

What’s made this even worse is Renault Complaints UK. When I contacted them for help, I was basically told there was nothing they could do, no one they could escalate to, and that I just needed to deal with the dealer. The call was dismissive and offered absolutely no support. Hard pill to swallow after spending over £20,000 on a new van that now has faults Renault can’t seem to fix.

As a small business, losing my fully sign-written van for over a month has massively affected my work and visibility. I’m posting this in the hope that someone senior within Renault finally steps in, because right now my own van is still off the road with no resolution in sight.

Happy to share details with anyone who wants to know more.
