We recently purchased a Shire Cubby Playhouse and, overall, we are extremely pleased with the finished product.
There were unfortunately a few issues along the way. The delivery was considerably later than originally expected, and when we began assembling the playhouse we discovered that eight acrylic window panels were missing, along with a few fixings. We also noticed that some of the factory-applied treatment had rubbed away in places.
However, this is where Shire really impressed us.
We contacted them regarding the issues and were dealt with promptly, professionally and, most importantly, like valued customers. Lily in particular was extremely helpful throughout and arranged for the missing acrylic panels to be sent. She also offered to provide a pot of DIP treatment to help even out the finish before we applied our own treatment.
There was then a slight saga involving the DIP treatment—it somehow became the most travelled pot of wood treatment in Britain! 😂—but Shire continued to respond and eventually arranged for another one to be sent.
The replacement acrylic panels arrived safely and fitted perfectly. The replacement DIP treatment eventually arrived too, although unfortunately the pot had leaked during transit. Thankfully, there was still sufficient treatment remaining for us to complete what we needed to do, so we didn't pursue this any further.
The playhouse itself is very good quality and, once fully assembled and finished, looks fantastic. We've added a few personal touches, including butterflies because the little owner loves them, as well as flooring, a kitchen and lighting.
Most importantly, despite the initial problems and delays, we are very happy with the finished product.
The real highlight for us was the customer service. Shire never fobbed us off, never became defensive and never made us feel like we were being difficult. They listened, apologised where appropriate and kept trying to put things right.
Mistakes can happen with any product or delivery. What matters is how a company deals with them, and in our experience Shire dealt with them exceptionally well.
A special thank you to Lily for her patience, professionalism and genuinely helpful approach throughout.
We would happily recommend the product and, based on our experience, would be happy to purchase from Shire again.

The only issue previously reported to us was the missing finial, which we advised was out of stock at the time. We have since received these back into stock and, as advised in our recent email, yours is currently being treated and will be sent to you once ready.
We weren’t aware of any issues with the tongue and groove or seat supports prior to your review, so please do get in touch with our Customer Care team with some photos and details of these issues so we can look into these for you.

Several issues as explained earlier issues with doors base and roof panels
The vase was bigger than it should be one of tge doors gas stains on it there are 2 roof panels that are built the opposite way therefore there is a gap in the roof . I am disabled and not able to work so I’m on benefits I have paid for it to be assembled privately which has cost me money that the people haven’t been able to complete doing because of these issues which wasn’t visable when they started so if I want it completed I will have to pay them again therefore I’m very disappointed

We can only apologise for the inconvenience and frustration caused by the incomplete delivery. We completely understand how disappointing it must have been to receive a second delivery that was still incomplete.
Just to clarify, the replacement was sent First Class on Wednesday afternoon, rather than Second Class, although we appreciate that this doesn’t change the frustration of having to wait for the missing items.
We’re genuinely sorry that your experience hasn’t been up to the standard we aim for, and we really appreciate your patience while we work to put this right.

Hi,
We’re sorry you’re disappointed with our response. The doors supplied with this building are manufactured to the original design and do not include diagonal bracing, so this is not a missing component from your building.
As the building has been in use since 2023, some adjustment and maintenance can naturally be required over time, particularly with timber being a natural material. Our care instructions also advise that doors and windows may require periodic adjustment.
For this reason, we would not supply additional timber to modify the original door design free of charge.
Spare Parts…
I have been trying for months to obtain a pair of new hinges for my shire Tuscan shed. It has never got further than we are obtaining a price from Italy. Supplying replacement parts is a responsible, environmentally friendly practice. If I actually got the hinges I would give you 4 stars, given the difficulties I have encountered 5 stars is not possible.

We can only apologise for the frustration and inconvenience you’ve experienced trying to obtain the replacement hinges. We completely understand how disappointing it is to have been waiting for so long, especially for a relatively straightforward spare part.
The manufacturer of the Shire Tuscan shed is based in Italy, and unfortunately we have been struggling to get the responses and information we need from them. We are continuing to chase this, as we absolutely agree that replacement parts should be available and that repairing and maintaining products is a much more environmentally friendly approach than replacing them.
We’re also looking into whether the manufacturer can send the hinges directly to you, which would hopefully make the process quicker and easier.
We’re genuinely sorry that this has taken so long, and we really appreciate your patience and honest feedback. We hope we can get this resolved for you and turn your experience around.

A great cabin supplied by a decent, honest company.
This is a great product and the service was good too. The materials and instructions were reasonably easy to use and follow. I did have to buy some screws as the heads on those provided weren’t the strongest but the wood itself was of a high quality.
There were a couple of boards with cracks which I reported and the company sent replacements without complications or questions. They even sent me some extra boards as a good will gesture which I used to add an extra layer of roof for insulation.
I’d use this company again and would recommend them to others.

Driver was very polite and placed my delivery where i asked. Shed looks very well made but cannot say for sure until it is built. Not a fan of having the sections screwed to angular batons. Prefer strapping its easier to remove.

The shed was delivered later than expected so our tradesman had to book us in for a later date he has arrived to erect the shed and has said to return it as it is so warped I am ringing them to ask for a refund I will get one elsewhere. Not happy at all

The shed was delivered on 13th July, and our records show that you contacted us on 23rd July to request a copy of the assembly instructions. Had we been made aware of any issues with the product, we would of course have been more than happy to look into this and see how we could help.

Overall this was a good product, however it should be stressed that the instructions and product part labelling is dependent on interpretation and that a level of ability and access to other tools and equipment will be required to complete the assembly successfully

My mum who was on end of life care…
My mum who was on end of life care wanted to buy my girls a playhouse as her final gift to them, after looking online at many others I decided to purchase from Shire. On ordering I was given 28th April for delivery, that date came and playhouse didn't come so I called Shire who said that it was due to me cancelling the other item I had ordered, an error put a hold on the playhouse delivery. So I was given a date in June more than 5 weeks away, kids were upset but nothing I could do so we just waited, had to explain to my mum that it had been delayed but due soon. Then before delivery was due I received a phonecall saying production was low and I wouldn't have my playhouse until the 21st July, my mum passed away in June. Then upon delivery one of the panels was badly damaged and not fit for use so had to arrange a collection and swap for that one, and upon further inspection another panel was damaged and had to wait a further week for that. I would not recommend this company to anyone, they do not respond to emails and no offer of recompense for any of this has been made.
