Purchased with next business day shipping. You waited two days to ship it! It will arrive too late for upcoming trip. If you can't deliver as advertised, change it.

Design Flaw Ruins Straps and Timbuk2 Refuses to Repair

I purchased a Medium Classic Messenger Bag in Blue from the Timbuk2 website in 12/2024. I've used the bag for about 18 months. While Timbuk2 markets their durability and lifetime warranty, the design of this bag has caused its own destruction.

The issue is a material conflict between the front Velcro panels and the closure straps. Over time, the straps constantly catch on the exposed Velcro when opening or closing the bag. This ongoing friction has completely shredded the straps, pulling the strap fibers apart, leaving them a frayed mess. I've photos showing just how bad the damage is from normal use.

When I contacted Timbuk2, their response was telling. They offered to send me "Velcro covers" to mask the problem. To me, this is an admission that they are aware of this design defect. They refused to repair or replace the straps as a warranty issue, instead asking me to ship the bag at my own expense and pay for the repairs myself.

Sending a patch-up accessory does not fix the damage on a "premium" bag. I expected a company that has a lifetime warranty to stand behind their product and fix the damage. Instead, I am left with a damaged messenger bag. Buyer beware: the Velcro will eat your straps, and Timbuk2 will not fix it.

To minimize contact between the closure straps and the hook-and-loop (Velcro) panels, we recommend fully folding the envelope closure when opening and closing the bag. Also, securing the straps and clips. This helps reduce abrasion and extend the life of the materials.
Our Lifetime Warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship, while wear caused by regular use is not considered a warranty issue. We appreciate you sharing your experience and will pass your feedback along to our product team.

Cancelled an order due to their poor…

Cancelled an order due to their poor fraud detection mechanism. The verification service was completely unreasonable in terms of privacy security, with no alternative provided after contacting customer service. After these delays, even when selecting “next day” shipping, products were only shipped 8 days later, with no estimated delivery date as of yet. Shame given the high quality of their products, but I will not be buying online again if I need reliable service quality.

Excellent customer service

The customer service team retroactively applied a coupon code that I had forgotten to enter during my purchase. It was so awesome of them to do this and I really appreciated the excellent service. Great communication too!

Dont pay for expedited delivery

Ordered bag for next business day 3 days ago. Charged for that special shipping but still waiting for delivery.

Exemplary Products & Service

In 2010 or thereabouts I designed a Timbuk2 Backpack - Raspberry with a Giraffe back panel. A total thing of beauty. The backpack went to Switzerland among many other trips. Fast forward to 2026 and I want to pack for our next big adventure but though my backpack looks used but in perfect condition on the outside, the inside lining has crumpled. Not too shabby when you consider my backpack is 16 years old ! I contacted Timbuk2 and they reviewed pictures of my backpack and though it wasn't covered under warranty, my backpack was repaired for a nominal fee in record time! It travelled to the US from Canada and was back in less than 2 weeks and looks as good as new.

Five Bought

I have purchased five of Timbuk2’s messenger bags for grandchildren serving missions for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. These bags are made of high quality material and stand up to constant use, especially when carrying books, papers, pamphlets, and bottles of water. The water resistant material available is very helpful in high moisture areas like the Philippines and Alaska. I highly recommend Timbuk2 products, especially the messanger bag for travel and for work. My grandchildren have loved them!

Great value

Timbuktu makes excellent and very durable products, well worth every penny they cost. My prior messenger bag lasted through over ten years of hard use, abuse, and neglect. And the only thing that failed, was the interior waterproof lining ...!

(Edit to add: the lining failed purely due to age / time. The rest of the bag still looks almost brand-new. ^_^ )
