A relatively smooth experience throughout with thanks to Hayley and Damian for their work. Communication was good but there was a little lull where things went quiet, hence not the 5 stars given. I would recommend this company to others.

I can't thank Baker Ashley enough for helping me and my partner purchase our home. As first time buyers we was nervous to start the process but Kerry was there every step of the way to answer any questions we had. The request updates within 24 hours tab helped keep communication accessible and us understand what was going on at all times. This was really good at stages when progress seemed slow. We also phoned on occasions. Kerry our conveyancer gave a really good service and explained the process as needed. Everyone we spoke to was friendly and helpful.

Now spoken to the MD who assures me communication will be better. Also explained the time lag receiving the emails was because I was abroad.

Our conveyancer was changed by Baker Ashley a couple of times through the process the first change was because work was simply not being completed in a timely manner or to a satisfactory standard by the first conveyancer. If this review was simply based in their performance it would be 1 star but once they realised the problem (after much complaining from us) they changed our team and things went smoother from there on. The initial lack of action drew out the process by many weeks.

I dealt with one fab person (thanks Andrew) all the way through who always replied to any queries straight away. The company have a chart so you can always see where you are in the process and make communication super easy.

I really don’t want anyone to experience the same issues I have had with Baker Ashley. I feel that the blame probably lies with the team being overworked on many cases due to them being so cheap.

I chose Baker Ashley due to the good reviews and low price point, as well as a friend also using them (who funnily enough has also had issues).

However, as a first time buyer it was a nightmare. Phone lines not being answered, emails being ignored, no ability to set up meetings. It was like dealing with a company in 2000.

Seller threatened to pull out on a couple occasions and when the estate agent had to get involved, they still ignored.

Again I won’t name specific names as I do believe it’s not their fault. But wow I am scarred and won’t cheap out in the future.

Instructed this solicitors through Conveyancing Index for our home buying We were assigned Kerry and she did a great job. She responded quickly with informative answers to questions .very good company.

Debi and Andrew were great! Really helpful and were always quick to communicate with us which made us feel reassured. It was our first time buying and they made the experience a positive one.

Unexpectedly bad, at first they seemed to be fairly good however you soon find out they do things on the cheap, eg using second class post taking days to arrive for important documents being returned but deliverately suggesting otherwise. The really bad problem is the unpleasant way in which they talk down to clients, especially Richardson a director who appears to have a problem with stupid women, you know the sort. I have other concerns on how they interperate the law and duty of care of their staff, in particular about one member of staff about which we received information we should not have know a matter that concerns me greatly. If you don't want to waste time and money I suggest you go elsewhere all will be better than these very unpleasant solicitors. I will be drafting my formal complaint to the Ombudsman and I bet their tone change when answering that.
May I suggest you check out the many scores of 1star the lowest score, they will tell you so much more, wish I had.
The reply was surprisingly civilised considering the way you treat your, clients. Shame you decided to use
a vulnerable member of staff to prop up your weak reply, you have no respect for confidentiality for staff or customers. You are correct I have posted many posts here, I am ex Law enforcement and I do not like bullies. People need to know who and what they are dealing with.

I have used Baker Ashley for 2 sales and a purchase. They have been exceptional and I would use them every time. The service I have received has exceeded my expectations and I would highly recommend them.

A little late with this review however I'm keen to share my experience however belatedly.

On the price comparison sites for conveyancing services (where we found them), Baker Ashley quote £20 for 'ID checks'. Once you sign up and progress further, the actual charge jumps to £50 unless you have a set of ID already certified to the required standard.

Most residential conveyancing customers will not have these documents lying around and will be required to use their 'video call' service to certify their ID. It would therefore have been more transparent to have quoted the full £50 on the price comparison sites (as this is the fee that will apply to the vast majority of conveyancing customers) and offer a discount to £20 where the customers already have ID docs to the required standard.

While a difference of £30 may seem minor in the context of a house purchase, there was every reason to believe something similar and more substantial would recur further down the line. In particular, the main item on the fee breakdown ('leasehold legal fee') was ‘discounted’ significantly, presumably to make it competitive on the price comparison sites. Given their approach with the ID checks (and the shameless way they defended them, see below) I had a reasonable suspicion that this 'discount' would suddenly become unavailable for some obscure reason, no doubt when it was far too late to switch providers without risking the transaction falling through.

When I complained about the cost for ID checks, I received a predictably disingenuous reply, including claims that:

• ID checks are important and required by law (I didn’t claim otherwise, and that was obviously not my complaint).
• The full cost was apparent from the outset (it wasn’t, per the above).
• Most of their customers don’t need their full ID check service (completely implausible and with no evidence offered)
• They’d provided ‘free’ alternatives to their service (all massively impractical and not therefore free).

I note that there are other reviews on this site complaining about the same thing; Baker Ashley’s approach is to state that the complainant ‘was not a client’, as if that somehow invalidates the complaint. No doubt they will do the same here.

UPDATE 1/10/24 - BA have predicably responded with an irrelevant and disingenous statement that somehow fails to understand or address any of the points raised.

Great service. Very efficient and kept me informed throughout.

The process had clear milestones visuals. However, I feel like it took longer than it should have. I would have liked better communication from solicitors on what the plan was when they were going on leave for 2 or more weeks.

The team is responsive, helpful and reliable. Particular thanks to Mr. Andrew Meadows who followed up our property sale diligently and always managed to respond to our inquiries instantly and professionally. Strongly recommended!
