I attended an excellent Eldercare Solutions presentation by Nicky Cave at the care home my mother had just moved into. Our family had obviously been very concerned about finding the right care for her and how to fund it. I was very impressed with the detail involved and the alternative unbiased scenarios for funding care that were presented. We, as a family of 5 children, discussed the options and agreed to contact Eldercare. We'd like to thank Nicky, Michael and Tracey for their very knowledgeable advice from the start. We had to sell mum's home to pay for the annuity which took about 6 months from our initial contact with Eldercare, during which time they kept in touch and answered our questions promptly, (of which there were many)! We would definitely have no hesitation in our recommendation of Eldercare Solutions.

From start to finish everyone I dealt with at Eldercare was friendly, efficient and informative at each stage. I cannot thank Eldercare enough for the exemplary help they provided in finding the right annuity package for my mum's care home fees. It took around a year to sell my mum's house and in all that time, Eldercare kept in touch but were very patient and very understanding. When we were finally ready to look in detail at the annuity, we were guided expertly and very kindly by Michael. He took the trouble to explain everything, (sometimes more than once when I didn't understand or had forgotten what had been spoken about before) and advised on everything we asked about and more. Nicky Cave, Eldercare Solutions, Managing Director, has so much patience with my abundance of questions back and forth was second to none and Nicky knows all too well after being in the situation herself.

It is a mind field with Care Home expenses and you’re never aware of the costs unless you know of another person going through it or until you are in that situation yourself, which is sometimes too late with the financial options that are available to you.

We were lucky there was a Care Home within 15min walk to us that had been re-built from scratch apart the façade, with the layout and facilities well thought out, each room having it’s own en-suite, no carpets in sight, the most luxury Care Home we’d seen, so clean and fresh, the staff so friendly, respectful, caring and supportive. This was the Care Home we wanted for our loved one but is more expensive than the average Care Home.

As a family we discussed the options and felt the best and ONLY solution was to purchase the Care Fees Annuity, which meant my Uncle’s Care Fee’s will be taken care of for the rest of his life in the luxury Care Home he’d settled into after doing a trial period.

This gave us as a family, the reassurance and relief to know my Uncle would not have to leave that Care Home when his money run out, as it never would with the Annuity Insurance. Plus the cost of the Annuity Insurance would also of been spent paying for the Care Home anyway over the next couple of years.

It is a massive expense, like purchasing a mortgage and we were lucky that my Uncle’s estate had just about enough to cover the cost for the Care Home Annuity Insurance. It will be worth every penny as we believe my Uncle will out live the next couple of years with his strong constitution (which you do have to weigh-up) and where he would of run out of money anyway, then would of been forced to move into a Council run Care Home chosen by the Borough.

Like us, at beginning you might find it hard to get your head around the expense of the Care Home Annuity Insurance but the best way to look at it, is it is an investment for the care of your loved one and to remove the stress from your family of always having in the back of your mind that their money will run out. You have to think of it as if you are buying a property for them to be safe and have everything they need (including food and no utility bills to pay) but won’t be able to sell the property at the end, although they will have all the care, support and easier access to medical help they need, that you might struggle to provide.

It is a risk that they could unfortunately pass away before seeing out a chunk of the Annuity but we found the peace of mind as family that we wouldn’t have to find the money ourselves once his own money run out (if we didn’t purchase the Annuity) was priceless. That it is their own money to use to protect and get the best outcome for them, rather then thinking about inheritance. Plus there was no other investment, savings or rental income that came anywhere close to be able to make a dent in the Care Home costs of just over £8,000 per month.

We are so grateful and relieved this Care Home Annuity Insurance exists, along with Eldercare Solutions that delivered this unique service for us.

Initially Nicky Cave gave us an outstanding overview of the options available and then during a long period of inactivity while we had to secure funds the Eldercare team kept in touch but were never pushy.....and were very patient!
