Reliant took $1000 from my account in…
Reliant took $1000 from my account in one day. Said they'd refund 600 then waited til a week before my next bill was due and credited to my account. And still wouldn't send money back even though it was a week b4 my next bill was due. I don't pre pay but that's what they did even after saying they'd refund. They didn't. That's theft I my book. I do my own budget but they wanted to do it for me I guess. Then lied to me about my refund inorder to withhold my money
I will be going back to TXU …
I will be going back to TXU the prices for Reliant is crazy and when I was in need of help b/c I was out sick the representative advices me that they do one extension per year and by the way my bill been lately I think that is crazy I thought if I pay the percentage of the bill I would be able to to pay the remaining in two days after the disconnect I was told no I was not eligible for extension are a deferral they give once a year
Small paperwork glitch, but otherwise great
We had to chase our grant approval email, but once sorted everything went okay. The installers were professional, and the new boiler is much more efficient
Nearly perfect—just one hold-up!
The survey was speedy, but there was a misunderstanding about our installation date. Once rearranged, the engineers did a great job. Very pleased with the new boiler
Great but had to wait a bit
The service itself was great, but we waited almost a month for installation because it was so busy. Once installed, however, the new boiler is absolutely fine!
I am writing to express my experience
I am writing to express my extreme dissatisfaction with Reliant's business practices. I recently spoke with Reliant and was shocked to learn about the \$250 transfer fee to move services to another apartment, especially considering that a deposit has already been paid.
Furthermore, my elderly father received an initial bill of \$557, which is excessive. Being told that both $250 deposit will only be refunded after a year is unacceptable and not a good business practice. If a \$250 deposit has already been made 25 March 2025, it should be transferable with my father's service.
I would never recommend Reliant based on this experience. TXU, on the other hand, is a far superior company. I have talked to this company three times on the behalf of my dad.
Reliant is not reliable
I am not one to usually write negative reviews, but my experience with Reliant Energy has been... not so good.
I called Reliant in December of 2024 because I was going to be moving into a new apartment that month. I told Reliant that my move in date was going to be 12/10. They understood and said my electricity services would be active by then. I moved into my unit and I had power. Great. I went on Reliant's website to set up my account. It said that my bill would be available within 45-60 days after services start. Great. I kept checking the website for a bill, until eventually Feb/March came around and I still had not received a bill from Reliant. I thought this was odd. So I called Reliant, and was informed that my services were never activated because apparently I did not sign some forms that I was supposed to sign. They said they texted the link to me, but I looked at my messages and did not see anything where it said I had to sign something. Reliant told me that the services were not activated, I didn't owe anything, and asked if I wanted to complete a new enrollment process. I said no because I've had electricity services for the past few months, so I want to find out who my provider is and if I will be getting billed. Reliant understood.
Later in March I got a phone call and text from my apartments advising that I will have to pay violation fees because they have been providing electricity to my unit. My apartments told me that I need to find my own electricity provider otherwise I will continue to be charged violation fees for not having electricity services with a company. Ok fine... I didn't sign Reliants paperwork so my services never started (and reliant never contacted me by phone, text email etc to advise that my services had never activated). So whatever... I paid the violation fees to my apartments since they had been providing electricity to my unit all this time and the expense was justified and reasonable.
I call Reliant again at the beginning of April to advise that I would like to resolve the issue and try setting up services for the second time now. I spoke with someone who was friendly and helped me create a new account. I thought the situation was resolved. He said I had to email Reliant photos of my drivers license and passport for identity verification, so I did that. He said that Reliant would start providing services to my residence, and that I can go online to check my account to confirm. Fantastic! About a week later, I went online to check, and I was still having trouble creating an online account with my new Reliant account #. So I had to call Reliant back to figure out how I can get logged in to view/pay my bill. The first representative I spoke to had informed me that my services were inactive. I asked if she could explain why, and she couldn't. She said that the most she could do is help me set up a new enrollment for services.. for a 3rd time.. which I did not want to do yet.. Because if I've had an issue not 1, but 2 times, then based on that pattern, I am probably going to have an issue a 3rd time.. so she transferred me to someone else instead. The next rep couldn't clearly explain why my services were inactive either, and informed me that my services had activated for 24 hours only and that I had a bill due for $7.71. I expressed my confusion and frustration - I agreed to a contract with Reliant, the services were activated the day I called, and cancelled one day later, even though I did not authorize the termination of the services. So why were they cancelled? If you are going to charge me for one day of services $7.71 then fine... it's only 8 bucks. but I need to know why the contract that both parties agreed to was suddenly broken and why did no one tell me about it? No one could provide me a solid answer. So I conceded... I guess i'll pay the measly $8 that reliant wants from me. And I encourage everyone to find a different electricity provider to service your home so that you do not have to deal with a similar stressful situation like I went through. Thanks for reading.
The worst electricity company you can…
The worst electricity company you can get. I bought a new house. First month with 2 household appliances came 165 invoice, the second month 246. And they charge 295 Usd to cancel. I sent them to fuc€ Off
DONT FALL FOR THEIR NIGHTS AND WEEKENDS SCAM
I am incredibly disappointed in Reliant Energy. I have used them for years in the past and rejoined them at my new house in February of 2024 with their Reliant Truly Free Nights 100% Solar 20 plan. After a couple of months with them, they gave me a "special offer" for being a good customer to upgrade my plan to their Reliant Keep Your Cash Nights & Weekends 36 plan. After reading about it, I decided to take the offer thinking of course I would stay committed to them for 2 more years when they were offering me such a good plan with free nights and weekends, an upgrade from just the free nights I originally had. Upon receiving a bill of $746.18 for a small 880sq ft home, I couldn't understand how a measly N&W Discount of $28.05 was the electricity I had used during nights and on weekends. I finally talked to a customer support representative and was informed that apparently my "special offer" was actually a huge downgrade and punishment for committing to them for a longer period. I asked them to change my account back to my original plan with free nights since this one was horrid and was told they could not without me paying the $395 cancellation fee. This is absolutely outrageous. Why would they punish good customers for staying with them longer? All I want is for my plan to be switched back to having free nights since they misled me into thinking I was upgrading my account by accepting their special offer.
Help finding pending payment.
I needed help with a payment not showing up on time. A customer service representative, Cintia, helped me quickly and thoroughly. It gave me great relief knowing she made it where I would not have a late payment. I was very happy with the service.
Reliant is an Energy Drainer not an Energy Provider
Reliant called me with an offer to renew my plan. Since they couldnt send me anything in writing I decided to shop for a new electricity provider and found one that was 20-25% cheaper. Reliant then hit me with a cancellation fee for early termination - so apparently I wasnt quite up for renewal after all. They just wanted to lock me in 6 months before my 3 year plan was up but framed this as a great new offer. Calling them back they wouldnt wave or reduce it (after 30 of 36 months!), couldnt give me my old rate back even if I switched back, and also wouldnt match the new rates I had received from a competitor - they were still 20-25% higher. The call took 43 minutes of my life and they keep saying "I completely understand" and then talking as if they have no clue at all. They couldnt even email me their offers or put it in writing.
they scammed me and then blamed it on me.
So i signed up for a surge protection plan on the 18th of September. I then cancelled the plan on the 25th of October. I thought that was the end of it because on my next bill, I didn't have any charges for the surge protection plan. Well I got my bill for today, and low and behold, I see a 6.99 charge for the surge protection plan even though I cancelled it in October. I called them to let them know of this mistake, but then they said that it was me that re-enrolled. I'm tech savvy so them saying that I might have logged in and re-enrolled "by accident" was an insult. Why would I go to that page and enroll myself again after I had just cancelled? I don't understand. And when I initially enrolled I got a confirmation email of my enrollment. When I cancelled, I never got confirmation that I cancelled, and when I got re-enrolled, I never got an email thanking me for enrolling like I did the first time when i myself enrolled in September. So yeah...never again am I going with Reliant. I cannot wait until my contract with them is up. They are snakes and will try to get everything they can out of you. They do not care about their customers. They just care about profit. I hate this company so much.
RELIANT ENERGY WILL SCAM YOU!
I contacted reliant energy to see about switching my service and the rep said she found me a "fixed rate" of 10.55 pkwh. I asked if there would be any additional fees or charges and she stated the only other fee besides the normal tax could be if we were under 1000kwh, there would be a $9.95 charge. I reiterated again, that it was a flat, fixed rate of 10.55 cents pkwh because I'm currently paying a fixed 14 cents and did not want to pay more than that and she stated "yes it is a fixed flat fee, not variable "
I have this call recorded!
Then I received the email confirmation for my new account and it stated a variable rate of up to 18.6 cents! total scam!
Unfair business practices by Reliant – Double Charges for a Single Late Payment
I was billed by Reliant with a due date of August 29th. On September 4th, at 3:43 AM, they issued a disconnection notice. I found out about it later that day and made the payment by 1 PM, before any service was actually interrupted.
Despite paying on the same day, I was charged both a late payment fee and a disconnection fee. How is it fair to penalize someone twice for a single late payment? Has anyone else gone through this? I’m wondering if it’s even legal to charge two different fees for the same issue.
I’d also advise anyone considering Reliant to look elsewhere. Their plans are expensive, loaded with hidden fees and penalties, and their customer service is extremely rude. There are much better, cheaper options available.
The rates are very expensive
The rates are very expensive. I get SSDI the rates fluctuating each month makes it hard to predict what you will pay. I asked to change my due date to the 1st and at this time I cannot. They will send disconnect notices. My bill is due the last week of the month and I get paid on the 1st.
Won't switch electric on in Houston summer even with young family
(with no exagerations) I have been on the phone to Reliant for HOURS to ask them to switch on my electric in Houston in August where its HOT , we are in a house with no A/C and 3 young kids aged 4,7 and 9 . They won't switch it on because Im waiting for my SSN number to be mailed to my address as I am from the UK.
Deposit has been paid as they wish and autopay set up as they wish
Nothing but incompetentance
Nothing but incompetent customer service. My most recent qualm with them is that they are supposed to apply a $75 credit for all of those that were without power during Hurricane Beryl. When I called to see if my credit was applied I was asked "Who told you about this?" and then was told that I called a day late, then after being connected with their supervisor was told all of the funds were allocated out already and that I wasn't allowed to speak with her management.
This isn't my first issue. In the past year I've had four separate representatives tell me that my automatic reoccuring payment was set up, only to receive notices of late payment or even to have my power shut off. The fifth representative finally told me the issue was that I was attempting to connect my debit card instead of a credit card, and all of these reps had bypassed the prompt to tell them to ask to use a different card.
Customer service is lazy, incompetent, has no integrity, and they're the only one you're able to connect with when issues arise. My renewal date is this month and I will be switching providers, and encouraging everyone else I know to do so.
Channel 11 news asked Reliant you knew…
Channel 11 news asked Reliant you knew this hurricane was coming just like the last one and you people didnt prepare for it you waited till it came and then started And even after that He told them the trucks aren't even here yet after the hurricane was over.. Reliant Energy doesn't care anything about their customers you should know that they care about money that's it if everyone would move to a different company that's what works they need to run them out of town
Easily the single most crooked utility…
Easily the single most crooked utility company I have ever had in my life. Took away my solar buyback plan and placed me on a standard plan while stealing and keeping the solar power my home made beyond what I used. Without a doubt crooked, dirty, and deserving of a class action lawsuit.
Reliant is NOT the ONLY electric company out there
Reliant Energy thinks they are GOD now. Little do they know there is a basket full of real good electric companies out there and Reliant customer service has hit rock bottom. I suggest those of you with Reliant open your eyes and take a look around - you are being ROBBED BLIND by reliant. Take a chance with a new company and I can guarantee you will not regret it. I am sure if you get with a bad company RELIANT WILL ALWAYS TAKE YOU BACK TO KEEP STEALING YOUR MONEY LOL
