From the very first point of contact with Emon ahmed the CEO to completion on the sale of our house, the entire team at Ackroys legal were fantastic.
Helpful, friendly, efficient and responsive sums up the service.
Some have mentioned issues contacting their conveyancer but that was not our experience. Niharika was always quick to respond to emails and when there was a problem, happy to discuss the issue on the phone.
As with any property transaction there were a few little issues. They always communicated clearly and succinctly what the problem was, how we could over come the issue and any associated costs.
By being "on the ball" they saved us at least £600.00 on what would have been a needless indemnity policy which had been requested by the buyers solicitors.
The service provided by ackroyd is not the cheapest but, neither is it the most expensive.
I think the best endorsement I can give is that when we find a house to purchase, we will to carry out the purchase transaction.

Be aware this is not the right page for Ackroyd Legal... They have a different trustpilot page and have rebranded this to Royce&Co but kept all the other details in place. Nice and confusing!

I am speachless
Definitely a very bad experience. I decided to entrust my conveyancing to Stirling Ackroyd as a friend of mine had a good experience with them but unfortunately my case has literally been a nightmare instead. We completed in December ‘20 a conveyancing which started 1 year before. I had to chase the solicitors most of the times, they often do not reply to the e-mails and I had to attend their office more than one time in order to receive a reply. Eventually not only they caused me a money loss due to their negligence, but I am still waiting for them to send me my money (Help to buy ISA) despite I called them thousands of times (It is now April ’21).

Dealt with N Martinez for a property. Similar to other recent reviews, I had long delays and had to constantly chase to move things along. No responses to phone messages and emails. Six weeks after completion I am still waiting for a response on final documents. I keep chasing on a regular basis with obviously no response. Very disappointed in their service.

AVOID - SEARCHES DONE FOR WRONG PROPERTY
Where do I start - I had three solicitors who looked after my file, each worse than the previous one but that's not even the main issue.

They were aware from the beginning that if I don't complete by the 19th of January I'm going to be homeless and failed to inform me that my solicitor is leaving until the day she left (xmas eve). Peter Benjamin has then taken over my file and I have never spoken to someone more rude in my life - he was so condescending and basically refused to look at my file out of spite for a few days and said that it's my fault I'm gonna be homeless (even though their solicitor advised me that 3.5 months is 100% going to be enough time).

I had to reach out to CEO and thankfully he helped to speed up the process and somehow I managed to complete on time but I have been so stressed the whole of January.

After completion I realised that they actually got the searches under a wrong property address and they lost my mortgage deed & contract TWICE.

Honestly, how does a file with three different, qualified solicitors have the wrong searches? They also tried to charge me extra fees which were inflated and I had to deal with that as well.

They try to scam people where they can and don't even do a good job on your purchase. I have also sold with them and the whole process took 4 months with the solicitor forgetting to request a management pack & waiting for information from the council, which I found online in 3 minutes - LAZY and USELESS firm

They also take days if not weeks to get back to emails and you will be on hold for 30 mins trying to call reception

AVOID THIS FIRM AND IM CERTAIN THE POSITIVE REVIEWS ARE FAKE - spend a bit more and get a proper solicitor firm!

Dealt with N Martinez for a property purchase (a property we were already living in and buying from my parents). Similar to other recent reviews, we had long delays and had to constantly chase to move things along. No responses to phone messages and emails. If we hadn't been buying from my parents I seriously doubt we would have been able to complete the transaction. In December, we were told by N Martinez that he was waiting for searches to come back, and advised US to chase for them! It turned out they were being carried out by the company that introduced us to this firm (confused? yes we were too) named Conveyancing Network. We had assumed that CN were just a referral company but obviously not the case. We chased and just before Christmas were told by CN that the searches had been forwarded to Ackroyd Legal. By mid Jan we hadn't heard anything so after phoning , emailing and leaving messages, we received a very short response simply saying he was still waiting for the searches. We had been copied into the searches by CN previously so we forwarded our email to N Martinez, and after initially saying he was still waiting, he eventually clarified that he didn't have everything he needed. Absolutely furious by this time, we complained to CN as we were being pushed between the two, and CN helpfully raised the matter the CEO at Stirling Ackroyd. This did prompt the matter moving forward but again down the line we had to keep chasing for updates to ensure things continued to move forward. At no point were we ever confident that N Martinez was proactive in handling our purchase. At the end of the transaction, the invoice and completion statement contained significant over charges and again we had to go through CN to have them amended. At no point have we ever received an acknowledgement let alone an apology from Stirling Ackroyd despite our numerous complaints to N Martinez, his manager and to the CEO via CN. Disgusting lack of customer service. I DO NOT recommend this company!

These conveyance solicitors were used in our recent home move chain and were an absolute joke. No sense of urgency, rude staff who would just hang up on you and the cause of much delay. If you want a good solicitor, go elsewhere.

Awful experience.
Throughout our first time buyers experience we were subjected to more unanswered emails and calls than we could count. All other parties in the buying chain grew frustrated at our solicitor Rey Caliskan's lack of responses, slow progress and unprofessional emails.
Stirling Ackroyd as a whole were extremely unhelpful and uncommunicative, with ignored emails and telephone appointment times being a regular occurance.
I understand that the whole industry of property purchasing is archaic and needs an overhaul, but the worst part of it all was dealing with Stirling Ackroyd. No customer service, mostly no responses to emails, always too busy to talk, never put our minds at ease in regards to any aspect of the purchase and never took the time to explain what was going on.
We had to chase down every bit of correspondence from the sellers solicitors, and ask the estate agents if we could be involved in the email chains so that we could sort out any queries that we could ourselves.

There is a pandemic, so it is understandable that there are delays in everything at the moment, but the way that we were dealt with is still not excusable. Even an explanation email saying that things were slow at the moment would have been appreciated, instead we got defensive replies on the rare occasions we did get replies, and the whole interaction made buying our first house 100 times more stressful than it should have been.
They have no respect for their customers, and obviously don't rely on recommendations as all subsequent negative reviews echo my own experience. I can only assume that the majority of the good reviews are fake.

Our whole experience with Stirling Ackroyd has been a disaster. You can never get to speak to anyone, they never call back. They sat on our instruction to proceed with our purchase for a month before I had to chase them to act. Had to replace our case handler because she couldn't cope. They exchanged on our sale before being ready to proceed with our purchase so we could have ended up homeless. Then on our moving day, demanded more money, we were told that if we did not pay the invoice then it would not complete, we were sat outside the house with the removal lorry so had no choice. Was told it would all be sorted out next week, still trying to get our money back two months later. It got worse! last week we got a demand from HMRC for the stamp duty which we had paid to Stirling Ackroyd well before the move and they had not paid it. No so much as an apology from them. All this flannel they give about Customer Care is fiction, they couldn't care less.

James was very helpful in efficient in processing our property transaction from start to finish and the final invoice was less than initially anticipated which was welcome.We were always quick to send James information he requested and he acted on this in a good time frame. I also appreciated that it was easy to get hold of the solicitors to discuss issues and questions. Recommended service!

Sorry to say a very poor service and Conveyancing experience. Weeks would go by with no response or any progress, which nearly lost my property. There was only 3 parties in the chain but overall they added around 2 months onto the process, purely by dragging their heels and slowing things down. It was virtually impossible to get in touch with anyone, with promises consistently not kept. I had to spend an awful lot of time chasing, pushing, and nagging for anything to happen. At no point in the journey did I have any confidence in Stirling Ackroyd. Things were also left to the very last minute. On the day of completion whilst waiting in a removals van, I was asked for outstanding documentation so the case could complete. The whole experience was way more stressful than it should have been.

Benem was very efficient and professional. She worked on my case in in two weeks she kept me up to date with everything that was happening. She was very professional and her approach was very good. I would highly recommend her. She is very polite and focuses on completing as soon as possible for us. She was understanding and helpful.

Dealt with N. Martinez very briefly for a case. However, I was ignored and left with no information or communication. I sent several emails and even threaten to leave and even that was ignored!

Eventually, I did leave the firm but ended up wasting 2/3 weeks of my time on a house move.
