DO NOT FLY VOLARIS
DO NOT FLY VOLARIS! NEVER!
My wife flew to Mexicali to visit family and bring her 3.5 year old grandson back to Cabo. Before she purchased the tickets, she went to the Mexicali Airport Volaris counter to confirm what documents were necessary for her grandson to fly. The agent told her that a birth certificate and permission to fly letter from his mother were necessary. She got those documents and purchased two tickets at a cost of about $250. She checked in using the Volaris app and received two boarding passes and seat assignments. When she got to the airport, the agent wouldn’t allow her to board because they said the grandson also needed a CURP card (Mexican ID) and needed to be a member of the Volaris V-Club, which is a frequent flyer club. She explained what she had been told earlier by a different agent but they refused to let her board and the plane left without her. She tried to get a refund but the agent wouldn’t refund the ticket price. What 3.5 year old needs a frequent flyer membership? She tried to take a picture of the agent so as to be able to ID the employee for a Volaris complaint but she was threatened with the police if she did so. She missed the flight and left the airport. We have had other problems with Volaris but none this serious and with the total loss of the ticket price. We will not fly Volaris again under ANY CIRCUMSTANCE WHATSOEVER. I will gladly pay the higher fares of AeroMexico or Viva Aerobus in order to avoid Volaris, hidden fees and last minute changes in requirements, surly ticket counter people and the hassles of missing a flight caused by the airline itself.
Pésima aerolínea
Pésima aerolínea, siempre se retrasa y sobre venden los vuelos
I hate this airline
We bought our tickets in advance through Volaris directly. After two hours on the phone with THEIR REPRESENTATIVE he said we were complete with everything we needed. On our return flight we were put on standby because “we did not purchase seats” with our original order. Their representative was well aware that we are flying with kids and need to sit close to them. He had us choose our seats. At no time were we told anything about needing to choose seats further. Now we are stuck in Mexico for eight hours with our kids. They offered us 60$ in food voucher and 80$ off our next flight. I absolutely hate this airline. No one has apologized for the inconvenience or taken any accountability.
When we were checking our baggage, the rep said “oh customer service did that to make the tickets cheaper and they could make the sale.” Deeply flawed system. I absolutely hate this airline.
DO NOY FLY WITH THIS TERRIBLE AIRLINE.
The most awful customer service we have ever experienced. Travelling as a family, with three young children, we were unable to check-in online before our flight (the app told us we were not able to check-in and we would need to check-in at the airport).
We arrived at the airport and were told the flight was overbooked and full. They told us they only had two seats available and therefore our family would have to split up and three people would have to go on a flight later that evening.
The staff were completely unapologetic; in fact, they were rude, unprofessional and utterly disrespectful. They told us to read the Terms & Conditions (!) and said we had flight tickets, not seats on the plane (whatever that means!)
The staff were extremely unhelpful and argumentative. We felt discriminated against and mistreated for no fault of our own. The staff in question should be utterly ashamed of how they conducted themselves.
We tried to explain our position; that we were a young family, with future flight connections that we needed to be on-time for, but they could not have been less helpful. We were told the only option was to go on standby (with zero guarantee of being put on the flight, or being refunded).
We later discovered that there were actually four empty seats on the same flight, which were Premium seats. However these were never offered to us or even mentioned as an option.
A very upsetting and disappointing episode. We advise everyone to avoid travelling with Volaris.
DO NOT FLY VOLARIS: 5 Months Later, Still No Refund After a Safety Crisis
My first experience with Volaris will be my last.
I decided to give Volaris a try due to rising airline prices. I was flying from San Jose, CA to Mexico City (with a layover in Guadalajara) to visit my home country for the first time in 10 years, bringing my 8-year-old daughter along for her very first trip to Mexico.
Everything was going well until our return flight was jeopardized by the cartel violence and extreme security risks in Guadalajara on February 22, 2026. I was not about to risk my 8-year-old daughter’s safety by sitting through a 5-hour layover in an active conflict zone where shootings were occurring.
Because Volaris's customer service via phone and WhatsApp is completely useless, I went directly to the desk at the Mexico City airport. They had a designated line specifically for passengers affected by the Guadalajara situation. The agent at the counter was kind and explicitly promised a full refund back to my original payment method. Trusting her word, I paid out-of-pocket for a direct flight on another airline to ensure my daughter and I made it home safely.
It has now been FIVE MONTHS (July 22, 2026), and I have not received a single cent.
My experience with Volaris was below average
My experience with Volaris was well below average. The biggest issue was the lack of customer support—I couldn’t reach anyone by phone when I needed help. I also wasn’t able to check in through the app and had to wait until 30min with other upset customers just to take a screenshot proving there was an error. Instead of trusting that the issue was with their system, the gate agent insisted on charging me.
I also had to pay nearly three times more for a checked bag that most other airlines would consider standard size, but Volaris classified it as oversized. On top of that, the seats were extremely uncomfortable, there were no charging ports, and there were no complimentary snacks or drinks. Even selecting seats came with an extra fee.
This was my first and will be my last time flying with Volaris. I recommend doing your research before booking because cheaper isn’t always better.
Very disappointing experience
Very disappointing experience. The customer service was extremely poor. The staff was unable or unwilling to resolve any issues, and they were also
disrespectful to passengers. I expected much better treatment and assistance.
Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this airline and will avoid flying with them again.
I had a flight on Sat 5/30/2026
I had a flight on Sat 5/30/2026 from San Jose Costa Rica to Orlando, arrived at the gate & waited for onboarding, as soon as they started I was pulled over to be physically searched & my hand bag. I was advised by your staff I had to throw out my coffee as it was not allowed onboard. I told them this is wrong I just purchased it at Britt coffee stand right next to the gate & showed them the receipt. They refused to listen & said either I drink it or throw it out or I will not be allowed onboard. I thru the coffee out. When onboard I approach the stewardess & told her what happen she said they were wrong every other passenger was brining in drinks & food. We sent back outside to the gate & she approach the 3 staff members & asked them why they made me throw out my coffee & they told her the same thing it was against policy. She told them they were wrong. I feel I was intentionally chosen to be made a broadcast in front of everyone. I have flown with Volaris twice once back in Oct 23, 2025& we were made to wait over 4 hours with no explanation as to why, again I gave Volaris a 2nd chance & this happens.
I am extremely upset and fustrated the way your three employee sterotype me in front of everyone. This is not the way you treat customers!
Casi no volamos

I am writing to express my disappointment in the lack of transparency
I am writing to express my disappointment with my recent experience booking directly through the Volaris app.
My family has chosen Volaris for years, and together we purchase approximately seven tickets every year. Unfortunately, this experience has caused me to lose confidence in booking with the airline in the future.
I booked a round-trip itinerary for three passengers directly through the Volaris app. The return itinerary included a Frontier-operated connection that appeared to be part of a single reservation. However, after contacting Volaris Special Services, I learned that the two airlines operate almost entirely independently. We must complete separate check-ins, obtain Frontier boarding passes separately at the airport, and Volaris is unable to assist with Frontier services despite selling the itinerary together.
When I attempted to move my return flight from July 12 to July 10, I found that purchasing a completely new reservation for the same travelers was actually less expensive than changing my existing reservation. A new booking was quoted at approximately $1,407, while changing my current reservation required an additional payment of $454.65. When I called customer service, the quoted change price was even higher because I was told that “phone pricing is different.”
I also asked whether I could cancel my reservation and receive a travel credit so I could purchase the less expensive itinerary. I was told that my fare was non-refundable and that I would receive no credit if I chose not to travel.
I understand that airlines have fare rules and change fees. My disappointment is not simply about those rules, but about the lack of transparency and consistency. It is difficult to understand why loyal customers are expected to pay hundreds of dollars to modify a reservation when the same itinerary can be purchased as a new booking for less money.
I also believe customers should be clearly informed when a Volaris itinerary that includes another carrier will require completely separate check-in procedures, boarding pass collection, and customer service. Had I fully understood these limitations, I likely would have chosen a different itinerary.
As a family that flies to Mexico every year and regularly purchases multiple tickets with Volaris, this experience has significantly reduced our confidence in booking future travel with the airline.
I hope Volaris will review its pricing practices for itinerary changes and improve transparency regarding partner-operated flights so future customers can make informed decisions.

High extra charges
Try to avoid them or at least be warned, that they will find a way to extra charge you, for the minimum with a max fee. Ridiculously high, wheter js for the luggage dimensions or a few ounces more
Volaris: Read before booking with them
Volaris advertises low fares, but my experience has been the opposite once all the extra fees are added.
• During check-in, I was prompted to add baggage and seats even though I had apparently already purchased them. The confirmation email did not clearly show these purchases, and I was charged for baggage twice.
• Volaris has a no-refund baggage policy, even when duplicate charges appear to result from their confusing check-in process.
• They advertise savings for purchasing baggage in advance, yet I paid $90 each way—the same amount I have paid at the airport in the past.
• Their surfboard policy has also become less customer-friendly, limiting boards to under 6’5”, which excludes many surfers.
With airlines like Alaska now flying to more destinations in Mexico and offering better surfboard policies, Volaris is no longer the budget option it claims to be. Compare the total cost carefully before booking.
Please don't fly Volaris anywhere they…
Please don't fly Volaris anywhere they cancel flights last minute. Ontop they denie next available flights and double charge customers to get on the next available flight. So you end up paying double for the same flight they themselves cancel. Their customer service is the worst. Nobody has the patience or ability to resolve anyone issues. Save yourself the headache and fly elsewhere.
