Scammers

I hired a car and a crack appeared in the windshield without having any impact (the crack comes from the border of the glass, no typical impact sign). I told it to the Company employee, he told me he knows it is a defect/maintenance issue but the company would charge me for excess anyways, because I cannot do anything about it because I am leaving the country.

No pre-delivery checks
No checks on return with me

Después de devolver el coche me mandaron una factura de 850€ por una rayada en el parachoques (que no pude demostrar si era culpa mía o no), pero el precio es un auténtico abuso. Importante hacer fotos y vídeos de todo el coche antes y después.
También cobran 57€ si no devuelves el depósito lleno, aparte de la gasolina y tasas.
En total me salió a pagar unos 1100€ por 2 días de alquiler y casi sin uso.

Reading other reviews it's hard to believe some of the comments. I have rented with MegaDrive at Salzburg many times . Three times this year already . Friendly and efficient. Have always had an upgrade free. Never had a problem with returning the car.. I thoroughly recommend them . Maybe it's different at other locations but MegaDrive/Buchbinder Salzburg is excellent .I would say outstanding.

This company is a complete and utter SCAM. We rented a car in Salzburg from these clowns which was booked via Auto Europe for a total of 6 days. Upon returning the car at 5pm there was no one from the company present to greet us at the rental drop off and we placed the keys into a box at the office. On arrival home this company emailed me claiming that there were "damages" to the car such as claiming damage to the tyres and the back of the car which did not exist. They sent 4 photos in total, 3 of which showed some scuff mark on a wheel trim and a random photo of the back of the car with absolutely no damage at all. They deducted €375 from the security deposit with zero information about the alleged damages even after i requested further information from them twice.

I have rented cars around Europe dozens of times and I have never had an issue until dealing with these total set of cowboys.

Legal action will be taken and contacting the credit card company to block charges for these non existent damages.

Just do yourself a favour and avoid. Normally i would be quite on top of researching companies prior to paying but in this instance I foolishly didn't.

This is a total scam beware of this company. After we returned the car we got mail in which they blamed us for a missing Hatreck (the inner trunk cover) which have never been there from the begining. They charged us 344 Euros ant thogh we send pictures that proove everything they ignored our mails and phone calls. Next time we will pay more for a main stream company and won't fall another time in a trap like that. Chack the internet there are so many complains about them. We should have check it before. Beware!!!

We arrived on time, everything was fine until we had to pay for the deposit. " No we don't take debit card", I have experience with other mainstream car rental, they had no issue and sometimes add more in the deposit (fair enough), I tried to tell the agent, she can max the deposit (AS ALSO STIPULATED IN THE CONTRACT FROM THE THIRD PARTY VENDOR), she said "no". I also suggested a secure link so I can use my partner's credit card (didn't have it physical), still "no". Our ONLY option ? Buy the extended insurance ! We already got the extended insurance from the third-party rental website. She said "It's different this one" , Of course. Total: 95€
So we ended up with double insurance.
Insane !

The car was ok, not washed properly from the outside though, and had a lot of kilometer for a rental (50.000).

Also, on the return point, we had to go back to the office. We couldn't hand over the keys at the return parking lot.

Honestly, we didn't pay attention to the reviews, we should have. Don't waste your money there, it's not worth it. Pay more at a mainstream rental, and be a peace.

PS: Check your contracts need to pay if you want to cross drive your car. 37,50€ + Airport fees : 26€

we rented a car with full insurance for 375.79 euro, no damage or anything else happened to the car, leaving it as we picket it up, full tank and in the designated place at the airport and returning it 2 hours earlier than agreed. when we get home, 8906 sek (750 euro) is deducted from the account by the company. we have sent several emails and asked for the reason but have not received a reply yet, it has been a week now still no response. We rent cars several times a year from different companies since we compete in different countries. this was the first time we have been involved in something similar. We will never rent from this rogue company again.

Man wird hier komplett über den Tisch gezogen. Ich war etwas mehr als eine Stunde verspätet bei der Abholung des Mietwagens. Obwohl dieser schon bezahlt war, war dieser Mietwagen dann "weg". Geld (über 1000 Euro) war auch weg. Das sei so vertraglich sagte man, wenn man den Mietwagen nicht rechtzeitig abholt

I used to use this supplier serveral times for 5 years and I was sure that I know every regulations and their tricks, but It was not. They said they give me another car at the same price, BUT with another extra charge, ex.) winter tire fees, airport charge and extra insurance. which is suppose to be served free of charge.

What made me even more angry was that the moment I got the key and left, they recommended that I get additional insurance. They said I need more insurance. "Are you sure? sure? sure?"

Meget meget skidt oplevelse. Forlangte mere end det dobbelte af billeje prisen i forsikring på destinationen, inden de ville udlevere bilnøgler, da hun ikke kunne lave et belæbs beslag på mit visa kort. Og som hun sagde i skranken.... hvis ikke du lejer 2 barnesæder til dine børn, hvilket er lovkrav, så skriver jeg en note, at du er sikkerheds mæssigt uansvarlig, og jeg kan heller Ikke sove trygt i nat, hvis der skulle ske dine børn noget. De to sæder tilsammen kostede mere end de koster at købe. Da jeg så havde betalt forsikring, så kunne der sagtens laves et depositum på mit Visa kort.... trods fuld forsikring betalt... som iævrigt kostede det samme som en forsikring koster for 7-8 mdr i dk.
Der er mange detaljer i oplevelsen, som jeg ikke har skrevet her... men den kundeservice og adfærd jeg blev mødt med, har jeg aldrig oplevet så dårlig og direkte provokerende før i mit liv ved billeje. Har måske lejet 50 biler før.

DO NOT RENT HERE! This company is terrible! I was subjected to hidden fees from the moment I spoke with them. 20mins late picking up my car cost €50…. Dropping it at the airport (with no staff! Just key drop) cost another €30!! I wasn’t told about charges to a different drop off than the pick up and overall the service was non-existent.

Last time I rented the car I did get a little better car, that is a positive thing but, what happened is just total disgrace. While searching for the car on the web, I saw this offer WITH UNLIMITED MILEAGE. Few days after return an e-mail with the receipt came, with about 130 euro charge for extra mileage, before tax, so even more than that was the charge. After sending e-mail and chatting with someone from Mega drive they did not reply when or if I will get a refund. Now it has passed over 3 weeks, nothing was solved and I did not get my money back, so I guess I will not get it. I rented cars from many houses and I did not have any problems with them, except with Mega Drive. Absolutely disappointed and angry. Highly unrecommended and avoid if any way possible.

Update: Customer service contacted me few days ago and they returned me the money they took for extra mileage. I am glad that we sort that out in the end.

I had rented a 9 seater through a online rental company VIPCars. VIPCars had passed the contract to Megadrive.at. The car was to be picked up at Vienna Airport.

At the airport the sales person tried multiple times to sell extra insurance (lower risk to me) which I declined. Then they tried to sell an upgrade which I explicitly declined multiple times (at different price offerings from them).

But when I got the invoice (which was already deducted from my card) some days after having returned the car. They has charged me 137 EUR more than what was in my contract with VIPcars. Apparently they had anyway charged me for an upgrade, and winter tires and cross border fee. And they had logged in their system that this was according to my wish!

Either the problem is due to the sales incentives given to the front sales persons that makes it attractive to overcharge or it's company policy. I have been in multiple communication and provided evidence that I declined the upgrade but they have not accepted any responsibility.

At car handover they presented a new contract that had to be signed with different (more expensive) conditions that what was in the offer from VIPCars.

For me this is a principle case where the company deliberately cheat customers once they are through the doors of their sales office.

Cars are not checked on return with the customers.

If you do anyway rent with this company I suggest:
- Do a full checkout of the car and mark all damages and go back into the terminal to get it signed off (not that this would help as their customer service is not on the customer side anyway ...)
- Do a full picture/video documentation on the state of the car when returning the car
- Do a very careful check of the contract they hand out for signature. It may NOT correspond to the agreement you made beforehand with the company

Charged for non existent upgrade a week after the car hire ended got to laugh

After returning the car I rented in Busapest, I came home and got an email with a bill of 848Euro with sime blurred pictures of a small scratch.
Of course I didnt do that at all.
They are Just Thieves. Beware!!!

Well, after reading the rest of the reviews here, I see that I am one of the "lucky" ones. At least they didn't charge me for any damages. They only charged me 3-times of what my reservation was claiming some kind of upgrade that never happen. How come I didn't read these reviews before being played by them - VERY HELPFUL :( Thank you everyone for taking your time posting it.

Zero stars! Be very very careful before renting from mega drive. They charged us 700$ on our credit card after we left the country for damage we did not do. They sent fuzzy pictures showing no damage where they stated it was. They have done this to other customers, read the reviews. The city and airport in Budapest really needs to investigate this corrupt company. Rent from Avis or Hertz not Megadrive.

Bad !!
I returned the car with no damage. However, they 'found' an already existing scratch form less then 2 cm at a wheel rim.
My creditcard was charged for 403 euro. Thieves !!

I experienced all the above. The trick with the Dacia, extra payment of 223 Euro with no invoice or explanation (which I am sure they have, but not sure it's real). Don't go there.
